Ozpolitic's Dunderheads
Obviously there are too many to name individually, but they don't seem to understand the political spectrum or how one can be of the Left and a Conservative. Or of the Right and Progressive. Or the myriad of variations that can occur.
There are many ways in which the political divide can be explained. Just as there are many ways to find out just where you stand in the political spectrum or what party is the best fit for you and your beliefs.
The Net for instance has a variety of quizzes or tests one can do in order to find out about onesself. politically speaking.
Over the years I have found the the Political Compass is probably the most consistent and reliable of the tests for Australians. I first found it via a site called Palmer's Politics... nothing to do with Clive BTW. It was a very informative and unbiased site. Pity most sites and forums these days cannot make the same claim. BTW the more questions you have to answer the more accurate the results.
In Australia's polity today the major parties are not 2 extremist parties even though they have more ideological extremists in them than ever before. The Progressive Right are known as WETS in the Liberal party they are a small group, also called by some Moderates. The ALP however has recently decided that it no longer is the People's Party, but is now the Progressive Party. In fact it has all but rid itself of its Conservative Left members.
As for the Dunderheads... they seem to think the political divide is just L/R. They are very 2 dimensional in their thinking and tend to see things in black and white. For me or agin me.
I've always been a LW Conservative... all my adult life. Yet they don't seem to understand what that means. The ridicule and crap you have to put up with from the Dunderheads is quite overwhelming... like all LW Progs they tend to hate and cannot tolerate dissent. They also can't seem to grasp the idea of truth very well. So when one defends those they see as their political enemy or if one dissents from their pov... you are automatically a Right Winger. They also don't seem to understand one can be socially progressive and economically conservative or culturally conservative or culturally progressive. The later, being in the main Multiculturalists, who really don't see that Australia has any National Culture or cultural worth.
Personally I have little time for Progressives of the Right or the Left. I see Conservatism as the backbone of society and a value to be both respected and supported. Conservatism is not anti-progress or pro-stagnation as the more immature of the LW Progs would like everyone to believe.
Conservatism in Australian politics should be defined as... a political philosophy advocating the preservation of the best of the established order in society and opposing radical change, or simply change for its own sake. The Party recognises the majority “conservative” nature of Australians and as such sees Conservatism as the core tenet of the party.

Re: Ozpolitic's Dunderheads
Like I said I am a Conservative and of the Left.
For all those Dunderheads that keep calling me a Right Winger as if that was right or more to the point perhaps as if that would hurt
For those Dunderheads who lie about the Right or Conservatives and can't admit to the truth and see my dissent and the truth as being proof of my being Right Wing

I've always turned out to be a Libertarian whenever I have done one of those political questionnaire things. I've always voted Liberal. What would that make me? A leftie or a rightie?

You beat me to it. Great minds, etcetera.

Re: Ozpolitic's Dunderheads
No. You tell me what I am. Put me in the political pigeon hole of your selection. I don't need some stupid internet gadget to know, especially one which tells you that you are not a right wing apologist and active supporter. What you post (or not post) tells us all what your views are, not some www bullshitometer.Rorschach wrote:You just have no idea about how not to lie, flame or do your own research do you Useless...

Re: Ozpolitic's Dunderheads
What is a Libertarian. I can relate to this stuff.
https://www.theihs.org/what-libertarian
https://www.theihs.org/what-libertarian
The libertarian or "classical liberal" perspective is that individual well-being, prosperity, and social harmony are fostered by "as much liberty as possible" and "as little government as necessary."
The central idea of libertarianism is that people should be permitted to run their own lives as they wish.
Libertarianism is the view that each person has the right to live his life in any way he chooses so long as he respects the equal rights of others. Libertarians defend each person's right to life, liberty, and property-rights that people have naturally, before governments are created. In the libertarian view, all human relationships should be voluntary; the only actions that should be forbidden by law are those that involve the initiation of force against those who have not themselves used force-actions like murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and fraud.
lib-er-tar-i-an, n. 1. a person who advocates liberty, esp. with regard to thought or conduct.... advocating liberty or conforming to principles of liberty.
NOUN: 1. One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state.
Libertarianism is a vision of how people should be able to live their lives-as individuals, striving to realize the best they have within them; together, cooperating for the common good without compulsion. It is a vision of how people may endow their lives with meaning-living according to their deepest beliefs and taking responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
