No Life on Mars - a conspiracy

Post by Super Nova » Tue Jun 16, 2009 2:11 am

“Phil Abelson, editor of Science magazine, was sitting next to Dean Cowie, a nuclear physicist,” Levin told me. “He grabbed Dean by the arm and audibly said, “Dean, let’s get out of here. The Bible says there can be no life on Mars.”

I was skeptical at first. No one likes a conspiracy theory more than I, but John Olive died in 1974, Dean Cowie died in 1977, and Philip Abelson died in 2004. There is no independent written source on this secret Washington meeting. And it’s not like the search for life didn’t go ahead.

I find it hard to believe that NASA have not being trying their best to determine if there is life on mars. However this article raises these thoughts;

1. Surely even the American bible belt is so powerful to hinder good science.
2. Have they really corrupted to scientific investigation by insisting they carry equipment that can not provide a complete answer.
3. Surely something has to be done about it.

It looks like a good God agnostic culture like the Chinese is probably to only way to get the real truth or is this just BS re the conspiracy.

BS I should think.

I say that a Zoology II lecturer I had back in my Uni days, late 60s, who was a yank and said it is more appropriate to talk of a non-bible belt in the US rather than a 'bible belt.'

Then again, the stupid repugs got themselves taken over by Christian fundamentalist fuckwits a couple decades later so who knows. But I do know NASA trying hard to find signs of (microscopic) life, NASA being one of those bastions of science & rationality. The repugs, like the Fibs here, were triumphant for a while but badly misused their time in office and no find themselves irrelevant, with younger generations more permissive than the fundy old farts and not interested.
