St Bob to be bankrupted & kicked out the Senate?

Post by Jovial Monk » Tue Jun 09, 2009 6:41 pm

Has two weeks to pay $240,000 relating to some legal action he took against Gunns/Forestry Tasmania.

Dick Smith might pay it for him.

Fucking weird!

If he does get kicked out Mine becomes leader, look for Greens vote to collapse.

He will if the debt isn't paid--Clerk of the Senate has already written to Bob.

Dunno why Bob has left it so late, some pathetic, grubby little publicity stunt? From the man who criticised Garret for not being at a minor oil spill in Qld (Garrett was performing to raise money for bushfire victims) and said Rudd should return the 'gift' (actually loan) of an old car.

BTW the sheeple in the Sheep Pen are fabricating whole cloth out of gossip, about their standard.

DICK SMITH TO BAIL BROWN OUT

Australian businessman Dick Smith has pledged to help Australian Greens leader Bob Brown pay a $240,000 legal bill which is threatening to force him into bankruptcy.
Senator Brown has to pay the money to Forestry Tasmania after failing in his efforts to stop logging in Tasmania's Wielangta Forest.
He has told The World Today that he has been inundated with offers of support, including a $50,000 interest free loan, a $900 stimulus payment, and a cake for a raffle.
Senator Brown says he has been told he could end up bankrupt and lose his seat in the Senate if he does not pay.
Speaking from his helicopter over Lake Eyre today, Mr Smith said it was inappropriate for the industry to threaten someone's political future.
"I'm very disturbed when I understand the legal letter which came in to Bob Brown threatened to make him a bankrupt, and of course, Forestry Tasmania would know that means he'd have to vacate his seat from Federal Parliament," Mr Smith said.
"And I don't really like that at all. I think that type of threat is quite uncalled for in Australia."
Mr Smith says he and other entrepreneurs will help Senator Brown raise the money if needed.
"I believe it's just not acceptable and Forestry Tasmania will do themselves great damage if they think they can remove Bob Brown from Parliament because he doesn't have much money," he said.
"I know if need be, I'll come in with some money and I'm sure others will too."
Forestry Tasmania says Senator Brown has known about the debt for a long time and the case has cost the organisation more than $800,000.
Ken Jeffreys from Forestry Tasmania says Senator Brown refused a compromise offer that would have reduced the court bill he owes the company.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says he is distressed to read that Senator Brown is under pressure to pay the legal bill.
But Mr Rudd has told Sky News he does not know the facts of the case.
"I've actually got a lot of time for Bob just as a person, a bloke I've got to know over the years," he said.
"I didn't actually know these facts until I read them in the press today so I'm quite concerned about it for him personally.
"As for what can be done about it, that's a separate matter."

Seems he is doing what comes naturally to Greens.

Getting on his knees and begging when he managed to screw things up. Perhaps he should stay on his knees and earn his $240K doing what he does best in any number of Sydney parks.

From BB of PB, kinda sums it up and I agree with the conclusion St Bob fucked up on this one:

I don’t understand your point? Are you insisting that Brown should apologise to Rudd? Are you saying he shouldn’t allowed to have people support his legal costs?

First question: if he wants to continue going for the $240k, “Yes, if he still wants Rudd to sell to ute.”

Second question: “No, because if it’s good enough for Brown to put out the begging bowl for hundreds of thousands to cover costs in a discretionary law suit, it’s good enough for Rudd to have use of a ute for electoral purposes.”

The point is, whether Brown gets the money for himself or his party he has to declare it. None of this “the jury’s out on that.” If Fitzgibbon had to declare a gift of an airline ticket to China he received years before he was even in government, then $240k is definitely declarable. The alternative - that you could receive cash money from anyone, up to any amount and by simply saying “That’s personal money, and it’s in a good cause” - is too awful to contemplate. I suppose he could do so in a pinch, but the donation would then have to be sufficient to cover any tax payable and leave $240k as the after-tax amount. Hardly likely, given Brown’s professed impecuniosity.

We have, on one day, Brown demanding Rudd sell a fully declared car worth a few thousands dollars that isn’t even his, and the next he’s after hundreds of thousands of dollars because Brown declares it to be for a noble cause. One cause is noble, the other isn’t - all according to Brown, who is assuming to himself the mantle of Chief Arbiter Of What’s a Good Look And What’s Not.

He blundered big time in this one.
