Obamas Presidency has many parralles with Rudd..Rudd has tried to spend his way out of debt too...and whilst the Libs are point scoring politically right now..it remains to be seen how the "bigspend" solution will ultimately settle into the economy..What else could Obama do in the face of this Global recession?..like Rudd he is damned either way, and the US as a Global force will be further weakened if it goes pearshaped..

If Obama took the first choice it would have also meant the end of the USA as we know it, no matter what happens the USA have to change those neo con ways or the world is doomed.mantra wrote:Obama really had only 2 choices in regard to the crippling debt the Bush government left. He could have let all the banks collapse, alongside major industry or gamble his way out of it with major investment.JW Frogen wrote:The crushing Bush debt, so far almost tripled by Obama in just six months, has now become needed investment for the future.
I am sure if Obama personally waterboarded an Al Qeada terrorist the media would move from the term torture to tough love.
He's opted for the latter, which if it doesn't work - will mean the end of the US as we have known it.
Obama can't do much wrong at the moment because America is in shock. The yanks are grasping at hope which Obama seems to provide in bucketloads with that fantastic voice of his. In fact he might even sell Rudd on taking the 17 Guantanamo Bay prisoners which Bush couldn't manage to do. If Rudd does take them - he won't tell us about it, I bet.

Obama had to spend money to stabilize the credit and banking systems, some critical industries (just as Bush had started to do) but Obama went waaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond that. His first stimulus bill was literally, literally a blank check to Congress. He just asked them to charge up on everything and anything they wanted and so has used up money he is latter going to need to implement his education and healthcare reforms. He did this after running (even after the financial crises hit) promising he would not do this.
Once again, watch what Obama promises and then prepare for the opposite.

Not everything is the same - something IS being done about healthcare even though Obama has broken his pledge to fight for a single payer system after taking the White House.

I agree with Obama on a healthcare revamp, the old system does not work. I supported Clinton's failed attempt as well.
He should look no further than Australia on how to make this work, we have it right.
But, Obama spent so much money on so many useless things one has to wonder where is he going to find the money to do healthcare?

There are plenty of places where healthcare works: Japan, Taiwan, Israel (Israel has a system that is more expensive that single-payer and the gap is filled every year by US dollars. I suggest the American people hire the Israeli lobby to get them the healthcare they deserve).JW Frogen wrote:I agree with Obama on a healthcare revamp, the old system does not work. And now all the Wizard of Obama has to do is find the money minus the tidal wave of money he has already spent on Nacy Pelosi's Congress Christmas.

Why is it so hard to get a decent national health care system for the US?

Because it can't be fixed with hard core capitalism, and socialism is evil... evil I tells ya!Hebe wrote:Why is it so hard to get a decent national health care system for the US?
