Australian government cuts billions of dollars from social programs

The Abbott Government has cut $6.7 million from Australia's Caring for our Country program - which grants money to conservation projects - to help fund its royal commission into the Rudd government's home insulation scheme.

Caring for our Country 2013-2018
• Caring for our Country Sustainable Agriculture stream
• Caring for our Country Sustainable Environment stream

http://www.nrm.gov.au/about/index.html

Given the LibNat's policy stance on everything from the environment and long term sustainable farming practices - to an NBN policy that will deprive rural Australia of high-speed broadband - i's hard to fathom why rural Australia can't see it is LABOR that best represents their interests in the new millennium

Old HABITS - die HARD - I guess ?

People choose rural living for a reason. Peace and quiet and to get away from city style living. It isn't for everyone obviously.

High speed internet shouldn't/wouldn't be a priority in a rural environment.

If you want city style benefits, move closer to the city.

RUBBISH, BOLLOCKS and CRAP !

If ANYTHING, high speed broad-band is of HIGHER priority in remote areas than in density regions - in areas of business, education and e-health

This incredibly selfish "I'm alright Jack" attitude of many city dwellers is best described as ( ... in rare, correct usage) UN-AUSTRALIAN

I have lived in a very remote area and I knew what I was getting into before I chose to live there. We had no electricity for the first few years and knew we would have to wait for it AND pay an exorbitant amount for the privilege.

We didn't just move there and then run around protesting and flapping our gums about not having that which was available to the city dwellers more readily.

It's a choice and some people may have to wait. Get over it!

Nice to see you posting here Buzz.

High speed internet has been promised to the bush for more than a decade, although they would probably be happy with reliable internet. When Telstra was sold off - one of the promises made was that the bush would have a good service...to date nothing has eventuated. They probably need a reliable service more than most especially in the case of emergencies.

I'm not sure how the NBN would be practical unless they had exchanges dotted all over the country. Running cable under thousands of kms of land would be an almost impossible task, unless they plan to do it alongside electricity cables.

The people living in The (real) Bush will get "hi-speed" internet via either Wireless or Satellite. They told us they were going to "lay cable" in my street, years ago, then realised just now expensive that would be since all services are underground. We got ADSL instead. I very much doubt that there will be NBN in my street in the next 10 years, regardless.

Buzz doesn't live in The Bush. He has said where he lives over at OzPol. A country town in Victoria ... I think he even posted pictures of where he lives at one stage. He will probably end up with Wireless or Satellite too. He isn't in the 'burbs of even a medium sized City.

According to our ISP - we ALREADY have "broadband"

What we REALLY have is ( ... what was supposed to an INTEREM measure) a satellite "service" ( ... installed at no charge by the Rudd government) charged at $110.00 per calendar month by our ISP

This broadband "service" is highly vulnerable to a cloud cover - or a bird or aeroplane passing over

( ... TODAY has been a SHOCKER for lengthy "slows" and total dropouts)

Under LABOR, who STARTED our NBN, ( ... the LibNats "thought" was that ADSL was "good enough" for the 21st century - despite having to build an exchange EVERY FOUR KILOMETRES to cover the nation) had planned and budgeted for FTTP for Australia's REGIONAL CITIES and LARGER regional towns

... and NOW - ... in the stroke of a TURNBULL'S PEN - we see the FTTP and FTTN reduced to FIXED WIRELESS

... and we see fixed wireless - reduced to SATELLITE

This little hamlet of mine was YESTERDAY declared number ONE on the "wish list" for international tourists - by Australian Traveller Magazine

GOD FORBID - any tourist should want to send their "rellies" home a PHOTO of the place

They'd best store it on their phone - and send it when they get back to a CAPITAL

... or MY little bit - 5 minutes away

Ever notice how its always the city desert dweller who tells the green loving farmer who feeds them and keeps them, how they should live and what they need.
