Re: Phone techy toys thread.
Watched a colleague take a 30 second walk down the hall to the men's room on Thursday. In that time he checked his smart phone 3 times. Then in the men's room he went into the stall where he presumably continued to check for social media updates ...

IQ,
Have you looked at the Windows Phones by Nokia.
That's what I use and they are secure for business purposes. Nicely integrates with my W8.1 PC and tablet.

I guess I will have to upgrade my old Nokia phone eventually! Just got Win 8.1 on a new computer and haven't had any problems setting things up the way I like! I didn't get a touch screen though. Have had Win 7 on my laptop for a couple of years. I do miss Outlook Express for email though!

Man you are missing out. Touch screen is great for viewing content. Just crap at creating it.Neferti~ wrote:I guess I will have to upgrade my old Nokia phone eventually! I love my touch screen, IPAD like but a full blown PC as well.
I use the keyboard as normal and touch for windows apps that are designed for touch. best of both worlds.
Windows 8 needs more apps though.

Re: Phone techy toys thread.
So much new stuff out there. I was only thinking this morning that I should get a "smartphone", not that I need one as I rarely make calls on the old Nokia ... $20 a year does me. LOL Still, with a smartphone, if I am hanging around waiting for people I can DO something rather than twiddle my thumbs. If I have nothing to say, I say nothing. I am not about to ring people because I am b.o.r.e.d. because I am never, ever bored. Also connect it to Wireless, etcetera.Super Nova wrote:Man you are missing out. I checked the apps on Win 8.1 and bloody Microsoft wants me to "log in" to download the freebies. All I wanted was, say, some mindless game like solitaire that usually comes with Windows. Sorry. Bill Gates is NOT going to track my every keystroke.
Everyone I know said I would "hate Win 8.1" .... there has been no real problems, so far. Except for the email (I used to use Outlook Express forever) but I found out how to use my regular ISP address (which I have had for 9 years) as they have pre-empted Microsoft and posted "how to install email" with IMAP instead of POP which Win 8 objects to and insisted I use Hotmail or something... still not ideal but I do have a lot of email friends around the World, so a lot of my internet activity is writing to people .... not talking on Forums.
If I was still working, things might be different but as a Retiree, how many technical things do I really need? I already have 2 computers. I am thinking of connecting the computer to the TV. Do I need a smartphone to sit and play games on? Do I actually want to keep up with the Jones'? All relevant to one's lifestyle, of course. So much stuff out there and so little time to consume it all.
