I didn’t say my street, I said the main road nearby. Clever of you to spot that since you *never* visit my board!

But it was a gas main and then gas distributors being run out, using some heavy duty plastic hose for main and distributors.

So I have brand new gas pipelines past and into my property but {sob} no NBN just yet!

I've had underground "services" in this surburb of Canberra since 1981. Forgotten when but AGL dug trenches along my street for "natural gas" at least 20 years ago. The NBN will make NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever to my current ADSL2+ connections. Wireless is the ONLY way I can go!

Turnbull and 100% populism ruining telecomms policy. Sortius writes:
Turnbull has all but confirmed that the Liberal party have no intention of upgrading Australia’s communications network to FTTP. This goes against the Liberal party’s own policy documents which call for co-funded FTTP deployments where economically viable.

That Turnbull is able to get away with lying in such an obvious way on national TV is a disgrace, he should be lambasted for his uninformed rhetoric.

So what does this policy shift mean? To put it quite simply, the Coalition will not be doing any copper remediation when installing FTTN, they will not allow technicians to work on the worst part of the network, you will not get “fibre on demand”, nor will co-funding, as spelt out in the Liberal party’s policy, be available.

Essentially any targets set by the Coalition’s policy can be thrown out, as without remediation on the final 500m of the network there is no way that 25Mbps is possible, let alone 50Mbps is possible on FTTN. Not only that, if you do have a fault, the Coalition have essentially banned any repairs on your service.

This kind of knee jerk populist policy modification is the epitome of stupidity. To allow emotion to overrule sensible responses serves only to buy votes, but not to actually resolve long running problems with our telecommunications network.

I think it was always essentially going to be this: $30Bn wasted on minor improvements to the copper, enriching Telstra but not giving what the NBN will give us—future proofed communications in the form of ubiquitous, reliable, redundant high speed optical fibre. With even farmers turning to robots for increased productivity this becomes ever more important. Doesn’t matter to the deadwood that is the Opposition which is just dying to inflict austerity.

Since the Rainmaker incident I have thought very little of Turncoat so unlike some I am not surprised or disappointed in this massive betrayal by him.

A Darwin tradesman has blown the whistle on what he says were unsafe asbestos removal procedures used on the National Broadband Network (NBN) project.

Thousands of telco pits across Australia are being prepared for fibre-optic cables for the NBN, including old pits containing asbestos.

The worker, who does not want to be identified, has told the ABC he removed asbestos from dozens of Telstra pits earlier this year.

He says the contractor he was working for told workers they would be removing asbestos, but did not provide proper safety equipment.

He says workers were exposed to the deadly fibres.

The worker, who has since quit the company, says in some cases asbestos materials were broken up in the streets while pedestrians walked close by.

Michael Hare from the Electrical Trades Union has called for a full investigation into the claims.

"We want to see it properly investigated. We want to see the right people on the ground doing the work, we want to see the right safety measures in place," he said.

And it can only keep getting worse ...

What has this asbestos shit got to do with the merits or otherwise of the NBN?

The Liberal Policy on the NBN would have confronted the same asbestos, and the same independant contractors to them would be digging in those pits.
