Same here then quickly moved to the next new thing. A CRT monitor that had 12 lines and a edlin type editor. Wow we were impressed. It has changed.

One thing the internet has done is allow the cycle to complete.

1970s to early 1980s. Mainframes, dumb terminals.
1990s to 2000s, decentralised computing with PCs. Desktop computers more powerful than the mainframes. Distributed processing with desktops doing the heavy lifting.
Now, dumb terminals called browsers on phones and PCs and tablets with the heavy lifting in the cloud via the internet.

The cycle is complete.

Couple prices I looked at, I will have much faster, much more reliable broadband and a much bigger data cap at a combined internet+phone monthly bill rather less than I am paying now.

Sortius worked it out correctly. However, the perils of relying on anything Tone said—the press release had not been prepared by Tone but by some PR firm!

Monk said on his Twitterblog, way back, that he expected to get Unlimited, very fast downloads,from the NBN, for $20 a month. Anyone who is a current member there could find it.

No need to wait for me to tell you, look up some prices yourself. Without a $30/month line rental fee, with much less to pay for phone calls I can get a very nice package indeed.
