Mr Thomson's staff should be engaged in Mr Thomson's parliamentary and electorate business. It's well established that MPs can't use taxpayer funded staff to sayrun an outside business for profit.

David Gardiner is Mr Thomson's press secretary. Here is a link to Mr Thomson's extra-curricular website which makes no bones about its purpose - to raise money for Mr Thomson.

It's hosted on Google. The website itself includes a search box in the top right hand corner. If you search for any of the words or phrases that are actually used on the site, you'll receive a search result like this - reader Ian searched for the name Craig:

The Search facility on the site shows you who wrote or posted the words. There is only one post on the site - Mr Thomson's letter asking you to send him money.

And the person who is listed as posting it is Mr Thomson's taxpayer funded Press Secretary David Gardiner.

Why would a taxpayer funded employee be setting up a begging fund for his boss when Craig says he only has $60 in the bank while living on close to a quarter of a million and takes the family to Bali? ...poor dear must be doing it tough and is now roping others into illegal activity

EMBATTLED MP Craig Thomson will be expelled from the Labor Party before he can resign, after formal charges under the party's rules were brought against him last night.

The move to sever the government's ties with the outcast Central Coast MP came as the Australian Federal Police confirmed it would look into allegations he was offered a fake preselection by party officials so he could collect a parliamentary redundancy.

The Daily Telegraph has learnt a special hearing is expected to be held within days to expel Mr Thomson after he announced he would run as an independent in the seat of Dobell.

NSW ALP assistant secretary John Graham has brought charges against Mr Thomson under rules forbidding Labor members standing against the party.

"I don't think Craig Thomson should be lecturing federal Labor on standards," Mr Graham said last night.
