The real issue for me is that he published them, and there was a lot, without considering the risk to human life. They should have gone through it carefully and edited out names and events that would threaten life or give the terrorist an advantage.

I consider Assange to be irresponsible. With that sort of power he should have been more responsible. That is his undoing.

Also Aussie, be reminded that most of the media in Australia/US/Australia ...etc edited out security sensitive stuff in most cases. Some didn't, most did.
Media in other countries did not because causing embarassment to the US and it's alies was a part of the fun and games. So the republishing of what other countrues' media printed also occured.
