Since Lisa - the most prolific complainer here would be Rorschach. Ask AM how many complaints he's received from him? No offence Rorschach. but you do complain.
Sorry mantra. But this statement makes me not believe you.

Personally I don't care. I'm not doing anything wrong.
I will REPORT issues I have because that is what I'm supposed to do. Whether AM likes it or not.
I had issues with Beowulf and I have issues with the topic titles changing... I don't like the use of the C word but didn't report that. I have issues with Aussie, but everybody seems to, haven't reported that yet either.

Now can we get back on topic? hmmm?

I know this is off topic and the mods will probably split the thread - but firstly I have never asked the moderators or admin personal questions or received any personal information relating to members. Secondly - I agree with quite a few of the issues you complain about. I didn't expect you to get upset about the comment - but I'm not going to accept blame for something I'm not responsible for.

Not upset mantra, (been mostly tongue in cheek - oh shock horror mantra has outed me etc...) just trying to make the point that you shouldn't worry about "complaining" or to be more accurate using the REPORT button... that is what it is there for.

Misogyny war has no winner
October 12, 2012
Michelle Grattan
Political editor of The Age

The PM may have made a hero of herself to some feminists but she did the wrong thing in trying to protect the sexist Peter Slipper.

JOHN Howard had his history and culture wars. Now Julia Gillard has the gender war. Or the ''misogyny wars'' as the extraordinary, bitter, unedifying clash is being dubbed.

Although the fighting has been building, this week's intensity was a shock. The government operates on the basis that Tony Abbott's weak point is his ''woman problem'', which shows in polling. Many female voters find his style excessively aggressive and some of his attitudes (such as on abortion) unacceptable. So they keep on and on and on about it, whatever it takes...

But it took the brawl over Peter Slipper to turn conventional battle into nuclear conflict. In Slipper we do seem to have a model misogynist. His offensive description of female genitalia and other unsavory messages reek with contempt for women.

Abbott used the revelation of Slipper's texts to launch a parliamentary attempt to remove him as Speaker. The motion failed; opposing it, the government essentially said the sexism issue was less important or urgent than observing due legal process. But for country independents Rob Oakeshott and Tony Windsor, the tipping point had been reached. While the debate was on, they twisted Slipper's arm: they wouldn't humiliate him in the House but he had to quit immediately afterwards.

The political demise of the little-respected Slipper is not so surprising. But Gillard's speech in the debate about his future was a seminal moment.

Rarely do we see a leader so genuinely unleashed in excoriating an opposition leader. ''I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man … Not now, not ever … If he wants to know what misogyny looks like in modern Australia, he does not need a motion in the House of Representatives - he needs a mirror,'' she said, in a performance full of anger. Which just shows why she is unfit to lead Australia.

Two things were going on here, one full of personal emotion, the other calculatingly political. Exactly. The irrational machiavellian... whatever it takes Gillard.

Gillard has recently lost her much-loved father, a dreadful time in the life of anyone close to a parent. Coping is made more difficult for a leader in the public eye, let alone having to endure the odious comment of Alan Jones (Tony Abbott's friend) that her father died of shame because of his lying daughter. Condemned by both sides of politics and by Tony Abbott.
Gillard was ready to unload her misogyny tirade otherwise known as a rant whatever Abbott said in Tuesday's debate, exactly but she wouldn't have expected his echo of Jones, when he referred (he swears without thinking) to ''another day of shame for a government which should already have died of shame''. Well it should have. BTW he didn't mention her Father once.

The PM's outburst against Abbott reflects her fury at the often-disgusting sexist campaign against her in parts of the blogosphere. Not to be confused with the genuine deserved criticism she engenders, which is also wide-spread.

But labelling Abbott a ''misogynist' - defined as hater of women, therefore a dramatic step up from the milder ''sexist'' tag - also has a deliberate political edge. Jones' crassness and the huge social media backlash against him gave the government an opportunity to twist further the latest knife it had put into Abbott after the story appeared about his alleged intimidatory behaviour (that he denies) towards a woman at Sydney University. Whatever it takes...

Gillard's speech has gone viral internationally, struck a chord locally, and divided commentators and women. Feminist Anne Summers lambasted press gallery journalists who criticised it, saying they were totally ''out of kilter with how so many of the rest of us reacted''. How about how so many of us were disgusted with it and labelled it for exactly what it was.

Why the divide? It's partly because the commentators judged Gillard's performance on broad criteria, and placed greater weight on the PM's contradiction of protecting the sexist Slipper (on whatever ground) while accusing Abbott of misogyny.

But feminists and a portion of female voters were applauding what they saw as a feisty woman finally hitting back at her tormenters. (Summers recently gave a lecture about the sexist campaign against the PM.) But Summers doesn't recognise the politics and bad inept incompetent government led by Gillard, which is why she cops the criticism she does.

Some believe (I think wrongly) it is totally appropriate to toss Abbott in with the serious misogyny nasties. For some women who have experienced severe sexism, Abbott may have become a surrogate for the men who have treated them badly. Totally irrational. Totally irrational women.

Measurement of how Gillard's outburst has played awaits the polls.
A few in the Rudd camp were trying to stir leadership speculation based on her ''lack of judgment'', but there was no evidence it was translating into a shift to Kevin Rudd.

Wind back one week and Margie Abbott was out defending her husband against allegations of his ''woman problem''. It remains to be seen whether bringing Mrs Abbott onto the stage will have given Abbott some inoculation against the misogyny onslaught or highlighted his problem. Abbott says he won't allow Gillard's attack to force him to stop muscling up. But he's aware he must be careful. A word or two, literally, out of place can magnify into a political storm. Typical labor tactics, dirty politics is part of their whatever it takes culture.

Gillard might be cheered and flattered by New Yorker managing editor Amelia Lester writing that ''After his performance last week, supporters of President Obama, watching Gillard cut through the disingenuousness and feigned moral outrage of her opponent to call him out for his own personal prejudice, hypocrisy, and aversion to facts, might be wishing their man would take a lesson from Australia.'' (The article became the most popular on the website.) :rofl :rofl :rofl Yet outsiders are unaware that the disingenuousness and feigned moral outrage shoe is actually on the other foot.

But the fact remains that Gillard did the wrong thing in embracing Slipper last year and again in resisting his ditching. She might have made a hero of herself to some feminists by flailing Abbott, but she betrayed feminism in trying to protect Slipper (that she condemned his messages is not enough mitigation). The clarion call that so appealed to those praising her was another confusing message for many who find her hard to read. She's not hard to read... she will do and say anything to keep hold of the party leadership and power.

As Gillard and Abbott flew off late yesterday to today's Bali commemoration, each must have been unsettled by this week in the political gutter. It's hard for anyone to keep a foothold when walking in so much muck. Which Labor wallows in and produces with nauseating regularity.

Did Hawke get the same vilification when he became emotional and cried? Did anyone care when Keating taunted Howard? Gillard lost her temper and she's allowed to do that. I agree that the speech was also calculatingly political, but it came at the right time. I'm surprised she's been so patient considering the disgusting things that have been said about her and to her. It hasn't been acceptable but the RW hate machine has been on overtime since Rudd was appointed pm.

I've only heard some whinging from the right. Overall I think her "lecture" was well received.

Abbott and his cronies have been playing on Gillard's childless state, her looks, her boyfriend and her voice for a very long time. His knife twisting started long before Gillard took lessons from him.

They have only been telling the truth! She is unmarried and childless; she does have a huge bum and a pointy nose; her current "boyfriend" isn't much chop; and her voice is irritating .... :o :o

Oh dear. When has Gillard been emotional and crying.... when she spoke of her Dad and Abbott made a very empathetic speech re that. Gillard is the one who attacks people personally. As do the rest of her Labor chums. Did Howard cry foul or charge keating with being sexist or a misogynist. Gillard lies mantra. Why don't you list all these things Abbott and the Liberals have said about Gillard. I'll tell you why... because they don't exist.

I think as Michelle Grattan pointed out it was only well received by the ignorant and feminists. Which group do you fit into?
From day one Gillard said GAME ON... Abbott has been playing by the rules and attacking the government, Gillard and Labor have been playing the man. Put up or shut up.

PM's phoney hysteria over personal dust-up
* by: Piers Akerman
* From: The Daily Telegraph
* October 12, 2012 12:00AM

IN what seems a very long 10 years ago, prime minister John Howard, deputy prime minister John Anderson and opposition leader Simon Crean flew to Bali to do what they possibly could to comfort the surviving victims of the first Bali bombing.

This week marks the 10th anniversary of that atrocity; the three senior politicians flew up four or five days later, as soon as the already-overworked Balinese officials could handle the extra load of a top-level visit.

Howard, Anderson and Crean travelled in a small aircraft from the government's VIP fleet. They sat together, to and from Bali.

For the first anniversary, a year later, Howard and Crean and their wives, Janette and Carole, again flew to Bali.

Howard invited the Creans to travel with him and his wife. It was the decent thing to do, the civil thing to do.

Not an eyebrow was raised; Howard - despite being the butt of a sneer campaign by almost all media commentators and the nation's leading comedians - observed standards of behaviour that were above reproach.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott will be in Bali for the anniversary memorial service. They will travel separately.

The Howards will also be present, flying with the Abbotts.

Civility in federal politics seems to have died with the end of the Howard government.

As opposition leader, Howard had a good relationship with prime minister Hawke. The bovver boy from Bankstown, Paul Keating, set things back, but it is well-known that Howard, as PM, and the then opposition leader Kim Beazley were able to work together, as were Howard and Crean, despite the latter's narrow union background.

Mark Latham, who notoriously claimed he wanted to teach his children to hate, introduced an unprecedented nastiness to federal politics. Kevin Rudd, who one of his own colleagues was later to label a "psychopath", did nothing to remedy the situation and Gillard has now taken the bar below the most supple limbo dancer's reach.

Thursday morning, Howard spoke to broadcaster Alan Jones about the trip he took to Bali as prime minister in the immediate aftermath of the bombing.

It was an apolitical discussion and Jones' program received a number of messages subsequently from listeners who remarked upon the former prime minister's measured and restrained tone - the "voice of sanity", one said.

The contrast between Howard's sober pitch, mature character and reflective comments and the shrill tenor and venomous remarks delivered by the current PM this week could not be greater.

Labor women claim that Gillard spoke for them when she accused Abbott of misogyny.

They overlook Gillard's own confession to ABC radio's Philip Clark on September 15, 2011, in which she said: "I'm always happy to accept responsibility for my role and my actions."

Then, when asked about "the level of vituperation directed against you personally and the office of the prime minister" and whether "it's due to some deep-seated misogyny", she said, "I don't "spend much of my time thinking about that".

But clearly she has been obsessed with remarks made about her lack of leadership ability
as she had her speech attacking Abbott for his alleged misogyny ready to run when she needed to divert attention from Labor's ongoing support for the grossly offensive former Speaker Peter Slipper despite evidence of his obscene text messages.

Last year she said: "I've got very broad shoulders and what I spend my time thinking about and doing is implementing the policies and plans our nation needs."

The vitriolic personal attack she made on Tuesday would indicate that her shoulders have shrunk and her thinking has narrowed considerably in the past 12 months.

"I didn't come to this position hankering for people to say nice things about me every day," she said last year. "I came to this position absolutely determined to do what we need to as a nation to make sure that we've got opportunity for all, right around the country, whether that's the chance to get a job, the chance to get a better job, the chance for a kid from a disadvantaged home to get a great education.

"And to make sure we don't leave people behind, which is why I'm so passionate about things like a national disability insurance scheme (NDIS). And I also don't think it's in us as a nation to really cower in the face of the challenges of the future, which is why it's so important we stump up to big changes, but important changes, like pricing carbon.

"So it's those things that drive me every day, not debates about what is said in politics, or personal matters. It's not what drives me."

That's good to know, except she announced the NDIS policy with no real funding in place, she told a bare-faced lie about the introduction of the carbon tax and, as we witnessed this week it is clear personal matters are driving her.

In perhaps the most farcical example of the phoney hysteria Gillard has tried to evoke in her followers to support her bizarre accusations of sexism against the opposition,
she demanded Abbott withdraw a remark he made on Wednesday: "What a piece of work," he said.

Indeed. It is actually one of my favourite quotes from Shakespeare, whose works so enrich the English language. It can be found in Hamlet and reads:

"What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals - and yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?"

In finding the expression "piece of work" unparliamentary and disrespectful, Gillard must have been offended by the reference to "quintessence of dust".

In this case, the truth must surely have hurt.

I fit into neither category Rorschach.

This article re: the sexist Abbott is enlightening.....
This time it's the perennial Liberal bridesmaid Julie Bishop, standing next to her newest partner Tony Abbott. The impeccably dressed Bishop smiles awkwardly as Abbott throws an arm around her shoulders, squeezes a few times, and tells the media mob before them, "She's a good loyal girl". His grin is wide and goofy. And just in case we haven't all caught the message about who is boss, he squeezes Bishop one more time. She didn't show it on the outside, but surely Bishop flinched on the inside, knowing she wasn't a "loyal" girl at all. She hadn't voted for Abbott in the leadership ballot, and only the night before she'd been mocking him with her ex. She'd been laughing about his budgie smugglers and – according to a jilted Malcolm Turnbull – saying a whole lot more...

Such public patronising of women doesn't wash with the general public anymore. They vote it down.

No doubt Bishop did cringe.

Such an appealing goofy grin though..

How childish... I don't find it a bad photo BTW... do you think there are no candid photos of Labor or Green members mantra in which they don't look their best. mind you no photo will ever make Albanese look good.

I note... Bishop has nothing bad to say about Tony Abbott and defends him when he is continually attacked by Labor.
And isn't that all the time
I note your quote is as biased linguistically a piece that you would ever find without being as distasteful as a member of the Labor party like Albanese or Plibersek or Gillard.
oh and mantra... I looked at the photo and didn't see any of those things ABC presenter Virginia Haussegger saw. But then LW Feminist Progs think all the world agrees with them and anyone else is an enemy or male or both.

As for Turnbull, we all know he's a bad loser. And who cares what he says or thinks mantra.
