Re: Iowa Hiho!
This makes sense:
http://www.tnr.com/blog/plank/106057/th ... -ryan-pickMy initial reaction to the Ryan VP selection was that there was only one possible explanation: Team Romney believed it was on track to lose, and Ryan allows them to shift blame for the loss onto the party’s conservative wing.
In response, a lot of readers have wondered why Romney would consciously try to lose. This misunderstands my point—I’m not suggesting he’s trying to lose. I’m saying he’s anticipating losing and trying to make the best of it. He’s not self-sabotaging; he’s resigned.
To see this, let’s back up a few steps to something we can all agree on: You don’t pick Paul Ryan as your running mate if you think you have a strong chance of winning. Whatever you think of Ryan, no one regards him as low-risk.

Ryan was chosen because of his competence
A surprising choice maybe, considering the circus and partisan cheer leading that accompanies selection of running mates but only because choosing a running mate based on all the right reasons instead of the wrong ones as it has been in the past is unusual
now that's funny coming from you

Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan agree on everything. Yes, he is more articulate than her but why is he called the "Intellectual of the Republican Party?"

Saw him being discussed on the news here last night. Appears very right-wing... minimum government and his messages about the debt really resinated with me. Sounds like he is in with a chance and will polarise the bid for top dog.AiA in Atlanta wrote:Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan agree on everything. Yeah, he is polarizing all right ... a Catholic Ayn Rand devotee who is against same-sex marriage and abortion choice (Rand must be rolling in her grave) and who wants to see all poor people foraging in the woods for food and those who can't make it die (Rand would love this).

The Republicans seems so extreme in their characters. They're either related to oil tycoons, great white hunters or some extreme neo-con self professed Christian evangelist. Off topic I know - but what harm do the moose do to warrant their slaughter - or is hunting just a bit of fun over there?

Do the Republicans have any environmental concerns? Apparently not. Obama is making some headway in this area at least from a moral point of view, but it looks like Romney - related to oil tycoons of course, wants to open up the oceans to prolific oil drilling. The US has already contaminated much of this earth, but they won't stop because their greed will never be satiated.
The cornerstone of Mr Romney's plan is opening up more areas for offshore oil drilling, including in the mid-Atlantic, where it is currently banned. He also wants to give states the power to establish all forms of energy production on federal lands, a significant shift in current policy that could face strong opposition in Congress.

His proposals make little mention of renewable sources of energy, like wind and solar, backed by US President Barack Obama. Mr Romney has deep ties to big oil and raised more than $US7 million from industry executives during a campaign fundraiser in Texas earlier this week.

Moose hunting is a sport for some folks in northern states such as Oregon, Washington and Alaska.
No, the Republicans have very little concern for climate change and the environment. They are much more concerned about stuffing their religion and morals down our throats than they are for common sense about the land and the country.
A great many Repubs are evangelical Christians and believe Jesus is coming back to take care of things. So why bother with environmental issues?
I'm sorry to say that the Grand Old Party began its long slide into political, religious and moral insanity in the decades following the Eisenhower presidency.
When I consider the wacko fundamentalists who call themselves the GOP in the 21st century, I am sad for my country.
