Most, but not all childhood vaccines are now mercury (Thiomersal) free here in Australia, but there are still a few out there being offered to infants and children such as one of the Hep B vaccines they offer at birth and during infancy and early childhood.

Many adult vaccines still contain the mercury based preservative Thiomersal.

Any vaccine containing this heavy metal (Thiomersal) should be avoided irrespective of the age of individual, simply because mercury never leaves the body.

So, when they ask me if I wish to vaccinate my children or myself, I will be asking if their chosen vaccine contains the preservative thiomersal (mercury),and declining if they don't offer a Thiomersal free vaccine alternative.

The more people who know about thiomersal, the more discerning the general public will become, and this will eventually place enough pressure on greedy cost-cutting pharmaceutical companies to manufacture thiomersal free safer alternatives all together.

It's already started, but the general public are slow to catch on, this and place too much faith and trust in their health care professionals who themselves receive incentives and kick-backs from pharmaceutical companies , state and federal government for promoting and providing certain vaccines.

NOTE: The preservative Thiomersal simply increases the vaccines shelf-life, this and does not increase the vaccines effectiveness.

The only advantage of using this heavy metal as a preservative in vaccines is to the pharmaceutical company, $$$$ wise.

I can't believe that you're paid thousands of dollars now to vaccinate your child. Parents even get paid if they don't, but send in the paperwork. It was compulsory when my children went to school and they couldn't enrol unless they had proof. Now we've got diseases in Australia that we haven't seen for decades plus a host of new fungal infections, human and animal influenzas and viruses.

Australian kids no longer have to be subjected to heavy metals in vaccines in order for their parents to be entitled to the same tax benefits as those who choose to unwittingly/indiscriminately immunise their offspring with Thiomersal (Mercury) laced vaccines.

Note: I am all for immunisations so long as they don't contain potentially harmful additives, (ie Thiomersal).

Remember to ask your GP for a Thiomersal-(mercury)-free vaccine alternative next time.

Because we do have choices, just as we have choices when it comes to buying foods with certain chemicals in them here in Australia.

The trouble is, many people aren't aware they have choices, so when their doctor, nurse reaches for the drug cabinet to immunise them they don't give it a second thought, just assume it must be the 'best' option, this and don't enquire after a mercury-free vaccine alternative.

Yes, they do exist.

Mantra, Thiomersal wasn't used in vaccines when you and I were kids fortunately.
It's a relatively new-age indictment, a consequence of greedy pharmaceutical companies wanting to fatten their bottom lines.

Governments turned a blind eye too, partially due to ignorance and because in allowing drug companies to cut costs and increase their vaccines shelf life (adding the preservative Thiomersal aka mercury) meant nation-wide vaccine programs funded by the federal government were more affordable.

So it was a win/win for pharmaceutical companies and governments, it's only now that they realise the potential hazard (accumulative effects of adding this heavy metal as a preservative to childhood and adult vaccines) have they taken steps to ensure this preservative is no longer used in many childhood vaccines, but sadly, some still contain smaller quantities of it.

Smaller quantities our government deems satisfactory after having completed their own cost/benefit analysis at the detriment of human health I'm sure.

When in doubt, leave it out.

I'm sure many of us just don't understand what's in the vaccines and even if the doctors told us, we would be none the wiser. I'm glad Mel has done some research into it.

When your little girl needs her next lot of vaccines SN, you can check with the doctor and insist that they are mercury free. Fifty years ago they were injecting babies and toddlers with contaminated polio vaccines with monkey diseases - so we've come a long way since then.

In 1960, researchers discovered that the polio vaccine distributed to certain states was infected with another virus called "Simian Virus 40." SV-40 is a monkey virus that is not normally found in humans. Unknown at the time, it was present in hundreds of rhesus monkeys that were used to grow and harvest the polio vaccine. Injected into research animals, the SV-40 virus causes brain and lung cancers. Now, some forty years later, its effect on humans is just being investigated.


SV-40 has appeared in 61% of all new cancer patients -- patients too young to have received the contaminated vaccine being administered forty years ago! Michele Carbone, Assistant Professor of Pathology at Loyola University in Chicago, has recently isolated fragments of the SV-40 virus in human bone cancers and in a lethal form of lung cancer called mesotheliomas. He found SV-40 in 33% of the osteosarcoma bone cancers studied, in 40% of other bone cancers, and in 60% of the mesotheliomas lung cancers. Dr. Carbone believes this study explains why 50% of the current mesotheliomas being treated were no longer occurring in association with asbestos exposure, their traditional cause.

Apparently the vaccines they give in Australia do NOT contain Thiomersal. I had to have a Whooping Cough Booster jab last year as a precaution as it was rife here due to people not vaccinating their children. Some babies/infants died from it last year here in Canberra. Whooping Cough, Measles, Mumps etc can be extremely dangerous, that's why the started inoculating against these diseases.

PS These childhood inoculations do not cause Autism.
