Comet 3I/ATLAS is the third known object from outside our solar system to be discovered. Astronomers have categorized this object as interstellar because of the hyperbolic shape of its orbital path. (It does not follow a closed orbital path about the Sun.) When the orbit of 3I/ATLAS is traced into the past, the comet clearly originates from outside our solar system.

Let's start with the basics Tld, I love this stuff too, but we need to start at the beginning.

Re: 3I/ATLAS
What are your thoughts concerning NASA's public perspective Tld?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsna ... atlas/amp/
I think in order to make sense of our universe, we need to exploit any technology available to us, probe anything we cannot make sense of that comes our way, sure, but what about $budget$ ....????
If say NASA'S preparing to thwart something potentially catastrophic that could wipe millions of people from our planet later this decade, then would they be inclined to concern themselves with wonkey orbiting alien comets potentially probing us, or be more concerned about something they're confident is an absolute threat?
If we are going to thwart anything catastrophic, my understanding is that we have 5 years to prep.
I guess it comes down to risk assessment and what potential threat is both more likely to eventuate, and is likely to benefit most from human intervention.
If we can't predict 31's orbit, what chance is there of our being able to capture/probe it, much less predict it's risk to our planet? If any?
I'm certain rival space agencies would like very much for us to squander time and resources on a "question mark " 31 right now, especially in our race to build a reactor on the moon.
However,
we need to tread carefully, geopolitically speaking, and not fly off into the sunset probing red- herrings or little green men's nuclear chem- trails in space who aren't likely to be responsible for this 31 anyway. It could be Russian or Chinese technology created with the express intention of delaying our moon reactor project.
I think monitoring this thing a little longer wouldn't hurt. What has China and Russia had to say about it? Are they in any hurry to probe it themselves?
I'm guessing they've had little or anything to say about 31.

I think it's important for NASA to keep on task and avoid distractions. Now more than ever.
Trump needs to get the mission completed during his stint in office, because if he doesn't, it's going to be our economy that disappears into a black hole, instead of our rivals.
