Paywall for me sorry ... https://www.heraldsun.com.au/subscribe/ ... 1615718161A LEBANESE man who married his 12-year-old cousin and fathered two children with her before she was 16 could be allowed into Australia.
Walid Khodr began his relationship with his Australianborn child bride Abeir when she was nine and he was almost 19.
The first of their four children — three girls and a boy who are all Australian citizens
— was born when Ms Khodr was only 13. They married in Lebanon in 2005 and Ms Khodr moved back to her home in Victoria in 2013, bringing her children with her.
An application by Mr Khodr for an Australian visa so he could join his family here was rejected in 2019 by then Immigration Minister David Coleman.
Mr Khodr appealed that decision and Federal Court judge Mordecai Bromberg last week quashed Mr Coleman’s refusal to give Mr Khodr a visa. Justice Bromberg also ordered current Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to redetermine Mr Khodr’s bid to move to Victoria to live.
Justice Bromberg said the 2005 marriage, when he was 21 and she was 12 was “lawful under Lebanese law and consistent with sharia law”.
Unbelievable.
