WAVERLEY Council has distanced itself from a court decision to ban a synagogue in Bondi Beach because of concerns it would be a target for Islamic terrorism.
The Land and Environment Court on Wednesday rejected plans for the synagogue at Bondi, in a move the Jewish community said was “rewarding terrorism”.
A Waverley Council spokeswoman said the applicant group, Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe (FREE), had lodged the original development with council last year.
When council had not dealt with it after 40 days, it was deemed refused and FREE sought a ruling from the Environment Court.
“It was the Land and Environment Court’s decision to dismiss the appeal put forward by the applicant and refuse the development application,” a council spokeswoman said.

The Land and Environment Court has been approving mosques all around Sydney. Multiple mosques in the same area and many times overriding local Council's refusal. Local Council says no and off they trot to the LEC for approval.
Sounds suss to me that they are approving mosques yet refusing a Synagogue for fear it will cause a terrorist event by the very people they are approving the mosques for.

Council didn't refuse it. The Land and Environment court did and until I actually read the judgement, I wouldn't believe they would do so because of fears it would constitute a Terrorist target, Black Orchid. More than likely it was a parking problem or something similar which caused it's rejection. I wouldn't believe anything that the Torygraph claimed.

Don’t bend over for islam. They will see it as a sign of weakness and take advantage of you. It’s in their text to do so. I’m not saying don’t allow them to worship. I’m saying that you can’t start basing public policy on how they behave. That’s when they have you. Look at London and Paris.
