I love the new tech.
I have had an Amazon Echo (Alexa) for the last 2 years. Love it. It is a window into the future.
What do you guys have?
Amazon Alexa is a virtual assistant developed by Amazon, first used in the Amazon Echo and the Amazon Echo Dot smart speakers developed by Amazon Lab126. It is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, and providing weather, traffic, sports, and other real-time information, such as news.[2] Alexa can also control several smart devices using itself as a home automation system. Users are able to extend the Alexa capabilities by installing "skills" (additional functionality developed by third-party vendors, in other settings more commonly called apps such as weather programs and audio features).
There is still concerns about eavesdropping but hey..... that is a risk I can live with.

I thought about getting one of those as they keep advertising them on the tv but I decided that I don't need one and am happy doing things the way I do them.
All these gadgets are breeding lazy generations and when the internet is down or you have a blackout you are stuffed.
Imagine if aliens hunted by tapping into technology where everything about us is stored? Nothing is private anymore and we would be kaput.

I don't like the idea of voice commanding to call numbers. I prefer to use my mind/memory. I use contacts to dial direct from my mobile but I always remember numbers and use my memory to dial numbers from the land line, which I use for calling more than the mobile.
These things keep the mind agile

When you get one the first thing you MUST do is disable to ability to order by it.
i have heard of cases where someone was demonstrating ordering on TV so Alexa heard it and placed the order.... plus a kid who ordered everything he liked and the mother only discovered when it turned up.
It is great for simple things,
Alexa, set an alarm for 10 mins from now - wife uses it for cooking
What is PI to 10 decimals
What is the square root of 2
What time is it in Sydney
What is 100+200+3.64 times 54 / 6
but most imprtantly
Playing music, listenign to stations... Play 3LO Melbourne
Play music from the rolling stones
Play my playlist
Replay, skip song
Tell bme a joke

About the only tech I have are trail cams (motion activated) so I can spy on anything creeping around my block.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
