Look, if they kill dogs the humane way, I will still be against eating dogs. That is retarded. I think we're playing a bit of hypocrisy here. I cannot believe that European Australians will say dog eating is okay. I mean, Bulgaria is supposed to be a bit backward and Bulgarians, but I nearly threw up.

Chinese people who don't eat dog meat are fine. But most of them eat dog.

Indonesia, the same shithole. They eat cat meat too, there. Basically almost all of Asia eats something disgusting. It's like they can't breed chicken. It's not that. It's just their wicked satisfaction of eating disgusting things and it's probably all behind some stupid superstition.

Seriously. Don't become one of those apologists that'll justify just about anything so they be "tolerant" to other cultures.

It's not okay to eat that guy, sorry!

That's good to hear.

By the way, I digged around to find out why they eat dog meat. I said in my previous post that I thought that "they were probably eating dog meat because of some stupid backward superstition". Ends up, I was actually right on my hypothesis.

Read this!

The tradition of dog meat consumption began over 4,000 years ago in China. Chinese practitioners of folk medicine believe that dog meat would help ward off the heat felt through the summer months.

What a bunch of idiots, these people are. Eating dog is better than installing an air conditioner, I guess. We'll have to agree with them. Sounds logical. Eat a dog—stay cool!

It's not what people eat so much that bothers me it is how they kill it before they eat it and in most parts of asia they believe that the more the animal suffers ... the more tender and sweet the meat is.

They torture dogs before they finally kill them. They hang them by the neck in markets and outside restaurants with their feet barely touching the ground. The more pain the better.

It's cruel and I detest cultures who invest in cruelty to animals. They are also quite happy to wipe animals off the face of the earth just so that they can cut off and ingest their genitals in the hope that it will improve their libido.
Yes, I agree.
But our record in this area is not one to be boasting about.
Chickens are kept in cages from birth to small to even turn around in.
They are slaughtered in a production line with zero respect.

I will not go into detail about veal, but it's disgusting.
Pigs, cattle it's very sad and bad.

Bit we have to eat, and while not perfect, the system is what the system is.

I know about this and I will NOT eat veal. Not ever!!

And I agree we should not be boasting about our own record especially in light of the fact that we ship live animals to the ME and I am very much AGAINST THIS practice!!

Can anybody tell me what's up with all the chicken legs that are sold at every gas station and supermarkt in China? What's up with eating chicken legs?

Dogs are simply meat animals to many Asians. Dogs are eaten primarily in Northern China, Northern Vietnam, in Mongolia and Tibet. It is usually sold as a remedy not for "heat" but rather against catching a Cold or 'Flu.

I've eaten many things, dog included. I've eaten snakes and lizards. None of it hurt me and it was all prepared cleanly. I found the snakes and lizards the most interesting.

I have eaten Emu, I've eaten 'roo. I've eaten Camel, Horse and Goat. I've eaten Beef, Sheep. None of them hurt me and the Emu and 'roo are considered to have excellent health properties - having no cholesterol and work very well in Curries.

Most Westerners' squeamishness towards eating Dogs and Cats are because their familiarity as pets.

Oh, and Guinea Pigs were originally raised as meat animals and still are in the Andes. Apparently they taste interesting, according to the people I've know to have tried them. Rather like the woman I knew who had taught English in Japan. She'd tried Whale meat. "Just like Beef," was her summary.

Food is food. Different people eat different foods. Simples really and it is what makes the world go round.

A few years ago a group of Vietnamese cruised the streets enticing and stealing family pets. They then skinned them, threw the skins in their wheelie bins (which is how they eventually got caught) and served them up in their restaurant.

They eventually got caught but not before dozens and dozens of family pets met a dreadful death. A good friend of mine lost her beloved poodle. :(

Moral of the story?

If you choose to live in Australia you do NOT hunt and eat your neighbours' pets.

The Chinese eat chicken somewhat differently than us
At the factory I managed, we have them a meal every lunch time
Quite cheap, around 12RMB per meal.
The meals were quite nutritious, rice was a staple, but tge chicken was a worry.
The chopped up the chicken, literally chopped it up and cooked it in various ways, bones included
The trick was to eat the chicken and spit out the bones.
Quite a feat for the uninitiated ill tell you.

Every now and then they had "western" food
Usually hamburgers
But like no hamburger you have ever eaten.
A bun with a questionable piece of meat, that was it.

Speaking of hamburgers
In the western part of town Hongme, they had several hamburger joints.
An experience to be had
I've never had a sore jaw after eating hamburger meat before.
But it tasted ok, could have been anything.
In the 3 years I was in China, I never once got sick.

Interesting country, nice people
Really know how to deal with muzzos.
