For the last 3 refreshed I have gone with the Lenovo Thinkpad... solid device, only had to get the fan replaced on 1 once.

I don't buy antivirus anymore. I did my research and the Windows Defender free with windows does the job these days as well. Saves money and so far it protected me well.

I have a friend that worked at Micro$oft and all their employees us it only, good enough for them, considering they are always under attack, good enough for me.
I'm on my pad at the moment.
When I get back on my computer, I'll have a look and tell you.
It's not expensive, about $100.00 a year.
But I can contact them anytime 24/7 If I have an issue and tgey even help out if I have a problem.

They found out about the hard drive failure.
I had a warning tgat there were several viruses on my computer.
I cleaned them and did another scan.
They multiplied by hundreds.
I contacted the virus people, gave them access to my computer, while he was on the phone to me.
He immediately told me to backup everything I had onto a hard drive and get the computer back to the shop.
He said it wasn't a virus it was the start of a hard drive failure.
When I got the computer back to the shop, they couldn't even start it up.
I had a new hard drive installed under warranty, complete cascade of data failure or something.

If the virus detection hadn't picked up the gradual deletion of data from the hard drive failure, it would have crashed and I would have lost everything.
That's why I back up everything every week or month onto two separate terabyte hard drives.

That on it's own won me over.
I use SOPHOS, its probably one of the more expensive ones, but the service is excellent.
I use Trend Micro, have had it for a few years, seems good.
I used that a while back.
No real complaints, but I was put onto SOPHOS by our IT department and have not looked back.
It's stopped everything so far.

I also have their phone app, as part of the package.
But never really had any warnings.

The scam numbers and "you have a package waiting " texts are happening all the time these days.
I block each one, but there are always more.
I'd love to send a very nasty virus down the line back at them.
Or a scud missile.
I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

Thanks, I'll look into sophos. have heard the name before.
The scam texts about a package being late/arriving are annoying. Trend picks any of those.

How come govts worldwide can't stop these scams?

Thats the million dollar question.

I had thought, when they were scammed, that it would start a movement to stop the,m.
No such luck.

Its as always with the Australian grubberment, as long as its not a problem to them, they dont care.
Other grubberments, especially where the scammers operate from, find it to their advantage to have money coming in regardless of where its coming from.
Africa and India are prime examples.
Even when the location and activities are reported to them, they ignore it.

But some people are fighting back.
On you tube there are several anti scammers posting the destruction of entire scamming setups.
They record it as they wipe the computers and lock up entire businesses devoted to theft though scamming.

Its a pleasure to hear the scammers plea and cry for mercy, mercy they never give their victims.

But these anti scammers are too few.
There should be a grubberment task-force set up to do it full time.

Or, when identifying a scammer industry.....a few drones to clean them up.
