NSW Police have denied a major operation to stop the spread of COVID-19 across south-west Sydney is targeting multicultural areas.
Key points:

More than 100 police are patrolling south-west Sydney, including on horseback
Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the operation may run throughout the lockdown
Some local leaders are concerned police are unfairly targeting multicultural communities

The operation, which began this morning, has seen over 100 extra officers hit the Liverpool, Fairfield and Canterbury-Bankstown local government areas (LGAs).

The mounted horse unit are expected to patrol main shopping areas in the region, particularly around Liverpool, Fairfield and Bankstown.

The region covers a population of around 1 million people, many of whom come from migrant backgrounds.
I can't speak for other states but they have been a huge problem spreading this here from the start. From employing them as 'security' and their letting people in and out of quarantine hotels to having sex there and then trying to square off their huge super spreader gatherings by claiming religious persecution and/or that they can't speak English. That and letting too many people travel back and forth to/from India.

Some idiots will call that racist. It's not it's a statement of fact.

What you need to know

Here’s a recap of the day so far if you’re just tuning in:

NSW recorded 44 new local cases of COVID-19,
including 27 people who were infectious in the community,

as Premier Gladys Berejiklian foreshadowed stay-at-home orders could be extended for a second time beyond next Friday.

Restrictions for greater Sydney residents have been tightened, including limiting outdoor exercise to two people within 10 kilometres of the home.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised Pfizer vaccine shipments will be brought forward within weeks, although the company said the overall number of doses it will provide this year has not increased.
NSW Police deny they are discriminating by deploying more officers to patrol south-western Sydney as the virus spreads there. Some people worry the show of force will put the community offside.

NSW has recorded 50 new cases of covid in the 24-hour period until 8pm last night.

26 were infectious in the community prior to their diagnosis, 11 were in the community for part of the time they were infectious and 13 were in isolation.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the number of cases infectious in the community was concerning.“When you know that there are 26 cases infectious in the community, the only conclusion we can draw is that things are going to get worse before they get better,” she said.

The Australian reported NSW’s leaders are preparing for a long winter of covid after Ms Berejiklian increased restrictions yesterday.

The NSW government are now preparing for lockdown to potentially last into August, with some now calling on the Premier to announce longer stay-at-home orders rather than going week-by-week.

It comes as NSW’s chief medical officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed on Friday there were now 14,000 close contacts across the state, doubling from the 7000 close contacts listed on Thursday.

NSW Police have denied a major operation to stop the spread of COVID-19 across south-west Sydney is targeting multicultural areas.

The region covers a population of around 1 million people, many of whom come from migrant backgrounds.

The police response has prompted criticism that it has been "disproportionate" to other outbreaks, including the northern beaches lockdown over Christmas.

Lebanese Muslim Association president Samir Dandan said the police had not cracked down as hard on other Sydney areas in the past and the "disproportionate" response would be harmful to the community.

"This is highly problematic and reinforces the experience of this community being over-policed and continues to create heightened sensitivities around the over-scrutinisation of these communities," Mr Dandan said.

"We would have appreciated a much more balanced response and something that is more in line with their response to communities elsewhere who had similar clusters.”

What a load of nonsense. These people have been problem spreaders right from the start and the reason other areas weren't clamped down on so hard and didn't need police patrolling on horseback is is that other areas did the right thing. Fence them off.
