Re: Lockdowns
They say that the lockdown is to prevent spread, which is not entirely true...
Maybe, if they said, more correctly, that it was so our hospitals can cope with the increased intake of covid patients, without collapsing the system, people would be more understanding.

That would tend to suggest that governments should be transparent...which I supposeNom De Plume wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 3:58 pmThey say that the lockdown is to prevent spread, which is not entirely true...

"When China first deployed lockdown in January to “defeat COVID-19,” The Washington Post approvingly quoted a Georgetown University professor as saying,
“The truth is those kinds of lockdowns are very rare and never effective…”
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention pandemic planning documents state non-pharmaceutical interventions such as social distancing are ineffective once a disease infects 1% of a region's population. Literature on this subject is unanimous worldwide. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control:
No respiratory virus ever needed a “lockdown” to dissipate. What it needs is herd immunity, preferably sooner than later, preferably developed by the young and healthy to minimize mortality.
Uummm...which "health experts" are our politicians avidly listening to.....
How long will it be before our politicians give up and secretly move to herd immunity....
Werent lockdowns used in at least one of the worse European countries (Spain or Italy)?
They experienced fewer cases and deaths...
Worldwide, epidemiologists are divided on the subject.
I am not an epidemiologist....I wouldnt know...
Im simply providing my scepticism as our politicians are those who make the decisions
based on the opinions of the epidemiologists which they listen to.
Only time will tell if they got it right in Australia...
Of course, the public will be told that they got it right.....
Some had lower numbers so didnt need to lock down perhaps.
Looking at Australian NSW and the other states apart from Victoria have managed to control it Ok todate
I dont think Victoria had any choice as it is/was getting out of control!
Sort of like the saying "which came first the chicken or the egg!" if that makes any sense at all!!![]()

Whatever the case, communication throughout this pandemic has been woeful.

Well, yes...
When a politician such as Hazzard comes out and tells us that everyone should treat themselves as though
they have covid, and treat everyone else as though they also have covid...the mind boggles at such ludicrous
communication...this is the boofhead who Andrew Clennell suggested should have his resignation on the
Premiers desk the next morning (due to the Ruby Princess debacle)...
The KISS principle has probably been applied for the 1am closure of the QLD border as Aussies
would be totally confused if they just said 12 o'clock......is that 12 noon or 12 midnight.....
I know lets make it 1am...so as not to confuse the muppets......

Re: Lockdowns
I was out today and it was a nightmare out there. Cars and people everywhere!! I don't go shopping on a Saturday normally so maybe it's always that busy who knows.
People were keeping their distance and very few masks.
You can't hide forever especially with the warmer months approaching. Use common sense and get on with life.
