Your lawn must be exceptionally lush and green with the abundance of ammonium nitrate fertiliser provided.

Oil spill threatens Brisbane River

The cargo ship at the centre of one of southeast Queensland's biggest environmental disasters has now leaked oil in the Brisbane River.

Australian Greens leader Bob Brown, who flew over the ship berthed at Hamilton at 1pm (AEST) on Friday, says there's a 500 metre-long oil slick down the Brisbane River from the vessel, the Pacific Adventurer.

This is really big. What a bloody awful thing to happen just now, when the Qld coast presumably is looking for tourists to escape the southern winter.

These container ships, the bloody containers just piled on one another, very short steel pins slotting into a hole in the one below are ALL that stop the things falling off the ship into the water! That might work on the road but on the sea there are these things called waves, bloody big waves at times! It seems it is not unusual to have a container fall off and be a navigation hazard until it sinks.

Add the flags of convenience rustbuckets "Ships of Shame" and there is indeed a disaster happening at sea all the time.

What makes you think containers are no longer a danger, just because they sink?

Forget (for the moment) what they contained. These particular containers, all 31 of them if they sank, are now sitting on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean bang smack right in the middle of the fishery adjacent to the Sunshine Coast.

Imagine what will happen when that ammonium nitrate begins to leech out. But, the more immediate danger is that these huge things, all 31 of them are sitting right where our trawlers' nets drag.

Net connects with container, net connected to trawler and unless there is very swift action, trawler capsizes!

. . .navigation risk. . . and I was talking generally about container ships. I have no idea of the geography where all this happened.

I have a dead aboriginal in my front yard.

He died 80 years ago, I blame my booze addiction on Boozalong.

We are going fishing next friday.
