Weather forecasters are predicting the Category 4 cyclone will cross the Queensland coast on Tuesday morning between Bundaberg and Hervey Bay.
Up to 10,000 residents of Queensland's Wide Bay region are being told to consider getting out before Cyclone Hamish arrives.

Well i'm at work waiting for it to turn up ...we've battened down the hatches but so far we are getting a few puffs of wind and the odd spot of rain..... hopefully we only get the puffs but the rain turns up a notch or two

yeah, still well offshore and has declined from Cat 5 to 4. Still do damage if it turns and moves inland though.

Yeah, same here Ravi. You're obviously in the Wide bay - Capricorn region. I'm just near Gladstone.
Until it moves well away or breaks up, it remains a threat.

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Damaging Winds, Abnormally High Tides and Dangerous Surf
For coastal and island communities between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta
Issued at 1:50 pm on Tuesday 10 March 2009
Synoptic Situation: Severe Tropical Cyclone Hamish, a Category 3 cyclone, was
located at 1:00 pm EST to be 188 kilometres east of Sandy Cape, moving
southeast at 11
kilometres per hour.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Hamish is expected to slow down and gradually weaken.
Damaging winds gusts to 90 km/h, dangerous surf conditions and abnormally high
tides are expected over coastal and island communities between Sandy Cape and
Coolangatta over the next few days.
Recent Events: State Government wave rider buoys are recording increasing wave
heights and period. The high tide this morning reached a level just above the
highest astronomical tide at Mooloolaba and Caloundra.
The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should:
· if near the coastline, stay well away from the water's edge
· secure loose outdoor items
· beware of fallen trees and powerlines
Seems the Beastie is pretty weak now. The Beach is 200 (+-) yards east of my home on the Sunshine Coast. Windy is all ATM
