Mission Earth & Scientology
Was tempted to buy the Mission Earth movie today (hey, it was going cheap!)... but meh. Anyway, strikes me (from reading an episode or two years ago) that it's a bit of a propaganda mission by the "church" of... all that superior species, related to us, dominating us, and hidden potential in some of us, waiting to be unlocked.

Scorpy's potential will be locked forever more, the warrior who never went to war, despite his nation needing him to go to war.

The book was an excellent read. Well written and engaging science fiction.boxy wrote:Was tempted to buy the Mission Earth movie today (hey, it was going cheap!)... but meh. Don’t quite your day job (if you have not been fired again) and apply for book reviewer at the New York Times.
Though I don’t know why anyone with self-respect would work for the NYT?
So give it a go Endy.
Re: Mission Earth & Scientology
Have you read the book, Frogwart? Would you like to discuss it's finer points in relation to the so-called linkages with Scientology? I frankly didn't find any, and likely because I wasn't looking for them. It's a good sci-fi story, well written. End of story.JW Frogen wrote:

Re: Mission Earth & Scientology
I think I stuffed up here. The movie is "Battlefield Earth", and the series I started reading was "Mission Earth", I think. It was a good read, but not good enough to support multiple episodes. After the first book, the sequels were all pretty much the same.
I really think that they whole scientology thing was a practical joke taken too far, or perhaps it got out of control and grew a life of it's own. Hubbard seems to have a sense of how ridiculous a story it is, becoming super-human via "dianetics" type bullshite. But surprisingly enough, such a blatant lie worked in creating a self sustaining meme in the modern world.

Yes, you're quite right.....Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 was the name of the book and the flick. Mission Earth was a series which I tried to get into afterwards, but found even the first book lacked the attraction of storyline that it's predecessor had. The move starring Travolta also let the book down badly, but then, 118 minutes can't possibly hope to do justice to the breadth & depth of the tale.
I sincerely hope that no adventurous soul tries to make a series of flicks based on The Amtrak Wars. It'll fail miserably, for certain.

Now I know postuate is a bit odd. No sane person could find anything Hubbard wrote to be great
The Mayans predicted the end of the world in December 2012, but they didn't see the Spanish coming
