Summer, season of heat, instant fruitfulness and love

Post by Jovial Monk » Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:09 pm

Sundrying some tomatoes; oxhearts, tigerella, green zebra and, mostly, Tommy Toe cherry tomatoes.

When they are dry (1 day of 41c weather will do it) will shove them into a colander, pour 2L boiling water over them and fill into clean (boiled, as with the aprcot butter) jars & then fill jars with oilive oil. I put a bay leaf at the bottom and at the top of each jar (bay leaves FRESH out of my garden of course!) but do not add garlick or chili etc: these can be added when using the dried tomatoes.

Not that i am necessarily that keen on the sun drieds (soups, stews & pizzas can benefit from them) but the oil just gets richer and richer as time goes on and that is the main reason I do this.

SUNdrying? Our tomatoes haven't even ripened yet - mostly still flowers. I can't get used to toms that aren't red, or yellow capsicum, purple cauliflower.

The worst are the emo tomatoes.

I have given up on Black Russian tomatoes!

Ate a couple when they ripened, but the plant hasn't produced anymore :(

If you think I am early, lefty in Qld has already had his tomato season!

Oh yeah and this is my "boy am I good!" bit: we picked and ate SEVERAL tomatoes before Christmass! (That is a bit of a target for Adelaide gardeners :) )
