Chinese Hunting Wombats in Victoria

Post by Black Orchid » Fri Aug 02, 2019 8:15 pm

Victorian police have confirmed they are investigating reports of wombats being hunted down and shot with military-grade weapons at a Chinese-owned luxury resort in Victoria.

The Murrindindi property, about 100km north of Melbourne, belongs to a high roller junket runner Tom "Mr Chinatown" Zhou who has been linked to an Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity investigation into the operation of James Packer's Crown Casino.

Singapore's Straits Times translated the Chinese-language ads posted on the Chinese social media platform WeChat.

'It's the ultimate dream for military fans.'
The ads promise guests paying about $1,000 a night to stay at the Juijui Resort access to "all kinds of hunting weapons, including but not limited to double-barrelled shotguns, small calibre rifles and large calibre sniper rifles".

"It's the ultimate dream for military fans," the ads say.

"Guides with hunting licences will explain how to use the guns and share all necessary knowledge, so even without any hunting experience, you are guaranteed to become the best shooters.

"Wild rabbits, foxes, wombats, wood ducks, red deers, sambar deers... are all waiting to spend a wonderful holiday with you."

A statement from Victoria police said it was aware of reports of illegal hunting at a Murrindindi property.

"Police will investigate to determine whether any crimes have been committed," the statement said.

In parliament on Wednesday, Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young said the allegations were part of an evolving scandal surrounding Crown Casino.

She alleged in the Senate that high rollers were being fast-tracked through the visa process because Crown had a "hotline" to Australian consulates, something the company strongly rejects.

When the high rollers weren't gambling, she said, they were picking up prostitutes, getting access to drugs and going to a luxury hunting lodge to shoot wombats.

"This is beyond bizarre," she said.

"This is stranger than fiction. Why on earth is this government doing absolutely nothing to really crack down on this hideous and obscene behaviour?"

Cormann said the allegations had been referred to the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity.

But Hanson-Young said she doubted the investigation would stretch to wombat hunting.

'No one in their right mind would say this is appropriate.'
"Does the government really think that it is appropriate to fast-track Chinese gambling billionaires through our border protection processes so that they can come to Australia and shoot our wildlife?" she said.

"No one in their right mind would say this is appropriate."

But Zhou is no ordinary Crown partner. He is, in fact, an international criminal fugitive, the subject of an Interpol red notice for financial crime that netted him tens of millions of dollars. He is supposed to be arrested immediately if he crosses a country’s border.

And from an Australian national security point of view, he is a double threat. He also heads several Chinese Communist Party-aligned organisations in Melbourne designed to project Beijing's influence in Australia.

It makes him someone of keen interest to organisations such as the Australian Federal Police and ASIO.

Not sure why this piece of excrement is even allowed to live and operate in Australia.

Are they eating their kill? If they are eating them, I don't care. I don't care for trophy hunting.

Wombats, like most marsupials are considered protected species by the Government(s), Tex. As such they cannot be hunted nor can they consume them or use them as trophies. Australian wildlife is often on the endangered list of species which are near or on the verge of extinction.

Ok. If it’s against the law, enforce it.

All species of Wombat are protected in Australia except in the state of Victoria, which is where this is happening.

Again I say ... what the hell is up with Victoria? Do the Chinese own the Andrews' government?

As the unprotected status for Wombats well predates the present involvement of Chinese underworld figures I hardly think the Victorian Government can be blamed for their being hunted by Chinese criminals, Black Orchid. I agree that the Victorian Government needs to rethink the status of Wombats and other native wildlife.

Rolls your eyes back to you. Didn't you just say ...

They are not protected in Victoria and the Victorian government IS to blame. The Victorian government allows Chinese criminals to set up hunting farms for Wombats and other Australian animals and, again, they ARE to blame for that too.
