https://au.news.yahoo.com/teen-stranded ... 53668.htmlA Melbourne teen has been left stranded in the United Arab Emirates after his flight home was overbooked.
Daniel Mizzi, 16, was travelling as an unaccompanied minor but instead of arriving home on an Etihad flight he became stuck at Abu Dhabi’s airport.
The teen was on a family holiday and had flown in from Belgrade, Serbia, where his mum is visiting family.
His father, Paul, flew back to Melbourne last week where he was meant to meet him.
But instead he received phone calls at 3am from his panicked son who was meant to arrive on Friday at 5pm local time.
“It is concerning you have a 16-year-old, a child away from family in a foreign country alone,” Mr Mizzi said.
Mr Mizzi added his son had no idea what to do because he has no money. He contacted Etihad but the airline couldn’t help.
He’s been given food and hotel vouchers and his father has told him not to leave his hotel room.
“Just stay there until tonight when you’re ready to leave so basically he’s stuck in a hotel room,” Mr Mizzi said.
Daniel is set to arrive in Melbourne tomorrow evening.
“Until he actually comes home and, on that flight, it’s going to be a stressful time for us,” his father said.
Yahoo7 News has contacted Etihad Airways for comment.
Hundreds of passengers on the plane and they dump a 16 year old off the plane in Abu Dhabi?
What a disgrace.
