Uber

Post by Wayne » Fri Apr 28, 2017 9:37 am

Whilst in the US recently we used Uber most of the time and found it a great service. It hasn't started in my area, but I have been on the road in the last 6 weeks especially in Cairns where it has just started up. It is really a great service, and more power to it. Fare from where I was staying was $25 by taxi, $10.50 by Uber. Every driver I have had to date has been polite and friendly, no inquisition on who, why, what and when plus an immaculate vehicle. Any one else experienced Uber and what are your thoughts?

I haven't used Uber yet but one of my sons uses it constantly and has no complaints. Plus they are always offering special deals.

Uber is great. And where I live, there is another option: Lyft. Across the road from where I work there is a high-end Marriott Hotel and I always see a lot of Somali taxi drivers over there and I wonder how they stay in business. I mean, they have permission from the hotel to work it but why would anyone want to pay a fortune when Uber is an option?

When I travel and I am on company expense, I don't really care if I use the taxi at the hotel. So I guess, business men/women are not going to worry about a couple of bucks when it is convenient.

I get that, but it is a lot more than a couple of bucks ...

I haven't used Uber yet. When I upgrade my phone I will give it a go.

Uber is becoming big in Dubai.

Part of my problem is where I am currently travelling, it is policy to use selected taxi companies for safety reasons. These are booked in advance my the host company. To and from airport, to and from hotel and office. Uber is not recommended.

In Saudi last year I was using local cabs, their cars were very bad and they drove like mad men. After an accident in one I went for hotel cars and drivers. 3 times the price but you get there alive.
