The Mormon Thing
Last March was my first trip to Salt Lake City. I am going again this weekend for another conference. Beautiful place: snow in the mountains but down in the valley the weather was sunny and pleasant, at least it was last year. Then there is the Mormon thing. Salt Lake City is like Vatican City for Mormons. Most everyone is in the Church. You may have heard of their propensity for large families. It is true - kids fucking everywhere, climbing the walls in every restaurant and public places like monkeys. In 500 years when the races have co-mingled and everyone in North America is some shade of brown, I swear tourists will be going to Salt Lake City to see white people.
Is anyone here Mormon? Know any Mormons? What do you think about them?

I've only had contact with them when they've been door-knocking. You have to feel sorry for these young boys who have to spend their days knocking on doors and trying to preach to people who either don't like them or don't have the time to listen to them. I try to give them a few minutes before I reject them.AiA in Atlanta wrote:Is anyone here Mormon? Know any Mormons? What do you think about them?

Mormons are odd: there is the "Magic Underwear," young Mormon women have anal sex rather than vaginal sex to preserve their virginity ("God's Loophole"), after they die they get their own planet or something like that, polygamy ... once, years ago, in Japan when film cameras were still the standard, I knew a woman who developed film. She told me about the roll of film that some Mormon missionaries brought in: they all dressed up in nothing but fig leaves and re-enacted the Adam and Eve scenes (never understood who played Eve as they were all boys)

Can you get a beer in Salt Lake City? I've heard Utah was dry. They're a weid lot. I remember years ago when I lived in Sydney being home on a sickie one day and bored when they knocked on my door so I thought I'd play with them, very strange mob, they wouldn't budge on their belief the world was as old as the bible tells them so.

Yeah, there was a bar (an annoying place) I walked over to behind the hotel, so it's not dry. There was a movie theatre too, near the bar. Out of six movies, one was about Jesus and the other five were family-oriented films. You may not be surprised to learn that all this suppression comes with a price: Salt Lake City has the highest rates of online porn viewership in the States.skippy wrote:Can you get a beer in Salt Lake City? Isn't there a casino that straddles the borders of Utah and either Nevada or Arizona? Half serves alcohol etc and the half in Utah doesn't?

Is it just me (out here in the boon docks), or are the door knocking nutters less active lately? Have they finally got the messages that no one wants to buy what they're selling? Or have they moved on to more productive marketing techniques?
