Australian vigilante keeps arresting Uber drivers
We all saw this headline. But the the truth is
The cops don’t give a flying fuck about Uber drivers.
The real douchebag isn't Uber but the taxi industry that won't step up its game. The CEO of Uber recently said his goal is to make Uber cheaper than owning a car. What is wrong with that?

It's a tough situation, but I can't see that anything much will be done about it. This country has a government which believes in deregulating everything and a lot of businesses will be affected eventually.
People will always try and save money whenever they can and if they get a ride for 30% of the price of a cab - they're going to opt for that.
Illegal car rides unfortunately wouldn't be a priority crime for the police.

A cheaper alternative will always be an attractive option. Taxi drivers in Sydney are pretty woeful. They are often dirty, smell, rarely speak English, have loud conversations on their mobiles whilst driving, have problems finding their way even with GPS and are quite often rude if you flag one down and are not going in the direction they want to travel.
Silver Service is good but with the rest it is just pot luck.

Re: A Cabbie Vigilante
I had my first Uber experience a few weeks back: an inexpensive, pleasant ride in a clean car. What struck me was my concern for the driver. "How is Uber working out for you?" I asked. He replied that when he got the message he was shopping for groceries and left a cart full of food to come get me. Seemed he was pretty happy making a few extra bucks driving for Uber. I actually cared about the welfare of this driver. If he were a cabbie I would have cared fuck all. Why is that? Is it because of all the press Uber drivers get?
