What are the chances we never hear about this again after the headline fades? Why is that? Quite often one reads of promising treatments for cancer but the cutting, burning and poisoning goes on ...

It takes about 7 - 10 years for research to go from testing it in mice with human hybrid cells, through clinical trials, to being available for use in the clinics. The process costs a billion dollars. Only 1 in 10 medicines which show this level of promise at the mouse model stage ever actually make it through clinical trials.

That said, we've known that linking gold nano particles as a payload to a targeting molecule (in this case from tea) to direct them to tumors has been a promising strategy for about 5 years now, so it may not be all that far off that gold is used to some effect here.

According to this article, it sounds like it has some merit. It says,

In order to make the gold nanoparticles deadly against tumors, the gold was given radioactive properties, researchers said

In practice, it would be like getting radiation treatments intravenously.

Instead of lying in a giant radiation machine like this one every day for twenty minutes for three to six weeks and getting zapped from the outside ..



.. you could get an IV infusion of irradiated gold nano particles, which will then travel to the tumor and zap it from the inside.
