Please donate milking cows to the Outlaw Yogi flood disaster appeal ... Bundy's gone into panic buying mode, there's massive queues at servos with remaining fuel supplies, bread is available at bakeries for a short period after opening (none on shelves anywhere in town) and there's aprox 4 days worth of flour left .... milk of any sort (except flavoured or soy muck) is all gone, including powdered and condensed {although I've just found someone with 2 boxes of long life milk - my newest best friend ;) } ... meat is available, but won't be soon.

River's running hard and rising, stormfront came through during the night, don't know where its dropping its load yet, but the river's expected to reach 5 metres today. Low lying areas already under again.

The floods have even hit the International Media. This link to the UK media (lots of pictures) was sent to me by an American friend today.

I don't think the Poms realise how huge Australia is. I was watching a program called Wainwright Walks the other day, where the female (name forgotten) mentioned that she was walking up some mountains in the "Lakes District" of England and that is was "very remote". Her idea of remoteness was that there wasn't a village for 8 MILES. That's "remote"?

Water level's still rising. Been over Kendall's flat cricket fields for a couple of days, last night went over Bourbong St east and netball courts at Rotary park. Walked into town along Quay St east and over the old rail bridge to the Rowers' club a bit after noon. Water had about 3 feet to go from net ball courts to reach Quay St east. On my return the water had risen 3 feet in 2 to 2 & 1/2 hours to reach Quay St east.
Bourbong St east had a dirt dyke built at Kendall St so vehicles could access Quay St east from Kennedy Bridge, but on return trip noticed traffic controllers only letting a few vehicles through in one direction at a time. By the time I got home the bridge linking Princess St and the Bywash near Baldwin swamp/Lake Ellen was closed, so Kennedy bridge will be too soon.

The military has flown food in .. yipee! .. got some powdered and condensed milk.
A 2 kilo per person limit has been put on flour products, ie bread.

A stupid thing to say. If anything, Anna Bligh has been impressive with the way she has handled this. Imagine being in her shoes right now. Apart from her NYE fuck up, she's done well.

Summer floods or Summer bushfires? It's an either/or thing. Reminds me of Dorothea McKellar's poem My Country.

Ya know, I had a bloke in the Cab today who reckoned her performance during this drama will win her the next election. I did not say so to him, but it did occur to me that she was probably hoping so.

How many Aussies would change their vote because some Politician said the "right thing" about a disaster?

I do not watch the TV news and wouldn't recognise Anna Bligh's voice if I heard it.

What makes you think you are an expert about what "people think" because of what they say in a 10 minute cab ride?

You only know you got a headache from too much fortified box wine!

Anna Bligh has done the right things, touring the areas affected, holding press conferences every two hours and no doubt non-stop meeting with Cabinet, emergency services, Fed & local govts. She needs to have a good long rest now, others can take over for a while.

On what basis then Neferti, did you assert:
Anna Bligh has been impressive with the way she has handled this.
