In NZ if I want an AK47 I can have one - legally.
In Switzerland I can buy a full auto SMG on display in virtually any gun show window.
NZ and Switzerland don't have cranks shooting up schools, cinemas or take away restaurants.
America doesn't have a gun problem, it has some mega social problems.
Weapons prohibition always leads to totalitarianism.
My favourite historical example is Japan's 'Shogun era'
Where 5 gangster families deposed the emperor and took control of the country for 400 years.
Once established the first thing they did was outlaw weapons for everyone but themselves.

Naa their mummy dusted off an old family relic and gummed it up with nonails and gave it to their son along with a pea shooter and slingshot to use as a toy.

Well actually Marlin firearms are not budget items. The reason Marlins were considered upmarket Winchesters is because Marlin invented the lever action, and Winchester bought Marlin out ... BTW Winchester have stopped making firearms. Now only make/sell ammo, so Marlins and Winchester rifles will become collector items.BigP wrote:"" I slept with 2 loaded guns in case one fucked up -""
Stop buying budget firearms, "eg marlins" and get something decent, and you will find one would suffice nicely
Actually the Marlin was borrowed. First 2 Comos (Billy and Jimmy Jack - both posses/ed Ruger .357 Blackhawk revolvers) turned up. I had hidden my bikes (2 Harleys - 1340 FXR & XLCR1000, 1 1972 BSA Lighning, 1 Suziki GSX and 1 Yamaha TT 600) and my Falcon ute. The rego ran out on the Falcon sedan so I left it. I was removing everything I wanted/valued from a rented house in Condell Park/Bankstown and putting in a LWB Econvan I borrowed from my father when they pulled up across the driveway.
I shut both front and back doors. I could see their silouettes on the porch through the frosted glass in the front door and heard Billy as Jimmy Jack "This door?".
I only had a take down Browning SA .22 with me that jammed on hollow points and only had hollow points with me, meaning I had to manually load one at a time. So I'm out-gunned. I knelt in the kitchen with the .22 lined up with the front door waiting for it to be kicked in.
This house had a spare room with a door leading onto the same porch, and one of the sash windows had a broken pane (I'd hammered a screw driver into the sash to prevent opening). I saw an arm push the sheet used as a curtain back to look inside (where the Harleys had been).
Jimmy Jock (Scottish) removed the screw driver after failing to open the broken window, lifted the window and started climbing in.
I smashed his knee with a piece of gal pipe and my Shepherd X Cattle dog ripped into his calf. He retreated.
I'd hidden the Econovan behind the house because I knew they'd be patrolling, waiting for me to be at the house, and left the keys in the ignition so I didn't have to fumble with them if I need a quick exit. They got the keys while I was inside the house.
When they left I got a taxi to my father's factory at Enfield to get another key, but this set had none for the petrol cap. Which I removed with a screw diver to refuel.
I went to visit a mate at Engadine who's ex army and borrowed the Marlin because I need a bigger gun.
I hired a shipping container at Enfield to store my belonging. That arvo back at the house, I'd left the van in the front yard because there was no point hiding it, when Jimmy Jock and Blackfoot (acting chapter SGT) turned up in the same turbo Commodore number job.
I was almost finished vacating, so ran out pulling the front door behind me, grabbed the keys from the van ignition, and locked the van door after lifting the Marlin from the bench seat, which I the chambered and manually pulled the hammer back (standard feature on Marlins).
I only had 3 bullets, so I wasn't going to waste them on warning shots. I aimed it at Blackfoot and Jimmy Jock ran away.
After some threats from Blackfoot they left.
The firearms I slept with till almost Easter 97 were a Stirling (semi auto) M20 .22 which I'd cut the barrel down to 6" and the butt of to the hand grip, fitted a home made silencer held on with a hose clamp, off which was mounted a laser sight, used a junky's needle box as a shell catcher over the breach and painted matt black to be unreflective to torchlight. Yes Stirlings are cheap arse but it was a potential throw away. The contingency back up was a Mossberg 590 (8 shot + 1 if chambered) which I later removed the butt and replaced with an after market pistol grip, so I could use in if need be in house hallways and carry in a duffle bag. I also had a Ruger .223 Mini 14 with a plastic folding stock stashed in the roof of a mate's house in case .... just in case who knows what.
How's this for irony? ... About 3 months later Billy got caught rooting Simo's (chapter commander) missus Saf. So Billy, his brother Fifties and their brother in law Jimmy Jock had a big fall out with and went on the run from the club. Jimmy Jock reputedly sold his bike (Harley sportster) and went back to Scotland the next day. I don't know what became of Billy and Fifties, but almost a year later I got a message via a grape vine they wanted a meeting with me. I never bothered replying.
In 2002 a bunch of Lebos the Comos had rercruited into their club took it over and kicked out a heap of members they didn't want/like ... including Blackfoot ... and Fannings, who's bike I ran over with a Falcon outside Engadine Hotel.
Now I live in the bush, with 2 dogs and 3 goats.

Fronting up with a .22 is a bit like taking a knife to a gun fight, a good pump or auto loading shotgun would have been handy. I dont agree with all your comments regarding winchester etc and when I have a little more time I will address my concerns with you,Outlaw Yogi wrote:Well actually Marlin firearms are not budget items.
