I asked myself and Mrs Dring that question more than once.

A five-figure chunk of cash gone in one day.

But it seems for some/most/all chicks, that piece of paper is the veritable holy grail, the raison dêtre.

Such chicks are immune to reason.

There is in a general sense, but not with regard to every single woman, a lot more respect and acceptance shown for a mother who is married than one who has a boyfriend or is living with someone. In general being married, and particularly having kids, kind of means you are a member of a club - gives you some substance in the eyes of other women. This is my experience anyway. There are also some women who disapprove of single mothers and of couples living together, although that is not as widespread as it used to be. Being married gives respectability and acceptance. Also shows the world that as a woman you are really valued by your husband, who would not have married you otherwise, and that means you must be worthwhile and he must really love you.

I only got married because my husband wanted to. At my advanced age, I couldn't give a toss about disapproval of the unmarried state.

I think you don't seem to need other people as much as i do anyway Hebe. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you are emotionally more stable and independent than i am.
