The USA has a rate of 11 times what we have in Australia.

Suicide has many causes... what we can draw though is that pressures in the modern world are roughly the same in some countries. But not all... Japan and France have higher suicide rates than Australia and the USA.

Not all suicides in the USA are by firearm BTW.

But it's just simply not safe to have firearms in a house.
Kids get them & shoot each other or their parents.
Drunken people pick them up & shoot
someone then don't even remember what they've done.
People pick up a gun during a heated argument and get so angry
they shoot another person on the spur of the moment
then spend the rest of their life in jail for one moment of madness.

Guns are bad news.
You're safer not having a gun in the house.
Bobby I have had firearms in my home for my kids entire lives, They are now 17 and 21 , never shot anyone , when their mates come over we do a little shooting,

You're very lucky.
Imagine if one of your kids had schizophrenia?
How safe would you feel then?

There is an increased risk, undoubtedly. However, Australia dealt with this issue, by making it mandatory to lock your guns up in an appropriate gun locker, and by having regular checks that you were complying. Also, people with a history of domestic violence or showing signs of being suicidal can have their guns removed.

Super sensible stuff.

Sounds like you might be one of those people you mentioned who have anger and control issues and would be reaching for the shotty at the slightest hint of a heated discussion. No guns in your house would be an ideal solution for you.

Or I might of been a victim of a crime where a firearm was used.

Yes Cods,
I am the victim of a crime where a firearm was used but
I don't want to talk about it.
