Obviously Abbott is not to blame for the weather but he can surely be held accountable for the constant price hikes. Mike Baird is even worse. He actually hinders/blocks price reductions.
Actually he can't because the only federal tax on it was removed.
State governments Labor state governments are largely at fault.
Of course your bill could be $500 a year more.

Mike Baird is not leading a Labor state government last time I looked but he is using tax payers' money to push his barrow through the courts in support of higher power prices. He started a legal battle with the state regulator to what? Cut costs to consumers? I don't think so.

So ..? I think one pair who died were having a long weekend in Katoomba or somewhere there ........ use GOOGLE to get your facts straight, mantra. They weren't trying to "heat their homes" because Tony Abbott did/said "something". You really are a nong, you know. :rofl

You will find that the state Labor govts froze prices for energy when they come into govt and it expires when the get kicked out which ends up making the power suppliers lose money and doesn't reflect the true price of supply. When the Labor govts get the arse, instead of having small steady increases across the board over a long period of time, you have large increases needed to be done quickly.

It's what's known as a wankers trick, and it looks like you swallowed it hook line and sinker BO.

What was the source of heat? Kerosene?

Yeah, people do dumb things trying to stay warm. A few years back a neighbour's house was destroyed by fire for that reason. In Japan people often use kerosene heaters indoors. It is like having an automobile running inside the house. The only reason more people don't die is because Japanese houses are drafty. I think a lot of the health problems I experienced in that country stem from those heaters.

I have just received my electricity account for the period 18 April to 20 July, 2015. A mere $583.00*. I was expecting a much higher bill as I have been leaving the heating on 24/7 (only turning it off when I go out). For the same period last year it was $515.00 and then I turned it off when I went to bed. I expected double by leaving the heating on ALL day. :huh?

Winter in Canberra isn't over yet, so the heating will be on for the next quarter as well.

* I have a full electric house ... heating, cooking, hotwater, etc.
