Re: Summer, season of heat and instant fruitfulness
Looked at my cucurbits this morning. Plenty zuchini pretty soon, might pickle some.
But the real prize, several tiny Charental rock melons!
Rock melon with thinly sliced prosciutto, yum yum!
Haven't seen any sight of watermelon or cucumber, will get some seedlings of those Sunday.

Sooooo many lovely ripe tasty nutritious tomatoes, what to do? Choices choices
Since I have five jars lovely sundried 'maters I will make sauce out of the current crop.
Don't have a fancy schmancy machine sooooo:
1. Get a few litres water boiling, wash tomatoes, plunge into boiling water, minute later fish them out, plunge into cold water, then peel, halve, squeeze out the 'snot' throw 'mater flesh into stockpot. Repeat till all done.
2. Cook till all liquid, press through moulie to remove woody bits, back into pot
3. Fill into hot clean clean clean bottles & cap
4. 20 minute water bath process (will need to use my 17L stockpot for the bottles!)
Do that tonight, probably get 4-6 bottles and 4-6 bottles later on. Not flavoring with herbs or garlick, can do that when cooking with the sauce!
Tomorrow morning, start a batch of peach butter, hmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!
So many peaches, going to dry some. not sundry, @#&% birds or ants would eat them, have a small dehydrater and will use that. Not using sulphur, yuck, dip the slices into citirc acid/lemon juice instead.

Summer seems to be the time to fall in love- anyone else noticed that? Summer when i was 18, summer when i was 21, summer when i was 24, and summer when I was 45 or so too.

Watching inauguration of Obama. Man that guy has some mighty big expectations riding on his shoulders!
Five big jars tomato sauce waterbath processing: because it is in my big 17L pot have a miscellany of racks and even an all ss grater keeping the jars off the bottom. Mostly just homegrown tomatoes, tsp salt, couple tbsp red wine vinegar and slurp EVOO. No herbs.
