Latimer received a patent on January 17th 1882 for the "Process of Manufacturing Carbons", an improved method for the production of carbon filaments used in lightbulbs.
The Edison Electric Light Company in New York City hired Latimer in 1884, as a draftsman and an expert witness in patent litigation on electric lights. Latimer is credited with an improved process for creating a carbon filament at this time, which was an improvement on Thomas Edison's original paper filament, which would burn out quickly. When that company was combined in 1892 with the Thomson-Houston Electric Company to form General Electric, he continued to work in the legal department. In 1911, he became a patent consultant to law firms.
Inventor....
oh and he was "black"
Even if BO denied it with her 1 itsy bitsy website. YOU need to read more before you go off half cocked.

Then you haven't been listening or reading cods... apparently there are no "black" inventors and all Africans are retarded.... how did you miss that?
Oh and before I forget...
Latimer is an inductee of the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his work on electric filament manufacturing techniques.
As recorded by History.

Oh dear P... got English problems?
I said if you invent something and patent it you are the inventor.
If you invent something patent or not you are still the inventor.
If you don't patent it then anyone can steal your idea and claim they are the inventor...
Now just where am I wrong in that? hmmmm....
The articles all state these people invented specific things... BTW not all are patented by them, but that does not mean they didn't invent them and there are a great many more I could post but didn't.
Your correction holds no credibility/affiliation with what I've been stating. Just as BO's was patent nonsense regarding what my claims were. I am well aware an inventor doesn't necessarily hold the patent for their invention. Example... having worked for IBM we all are forced to sign a contract that says that any ideas etc we come up with whilst working for them becomes the property of the company.
I also suggest you all read the link re the history of "Black" inventors in America. A bit of enlightenment never hurt anyone.
Dont be a patranising twit Rors, Im one of the few people here that doesnt attack you,

Read it.... where was I wrong?
Apparently you read BO's comment that was incorrect, she made the same point.... I never made that point or stated that was not the case.
The point I made was that many of the recognised inventors actually held the patent... I still hold that to be true. Her comment about my understanding of patents etc, was simply a strawman.

No strawman. I could invent something and you could pay to patent it, or some variation of it, but that does not mean that you invented it
