You will be very sadly missed and the boards will never be the same without your wit and perceptive understanding.

Saw that over yonder. I had wondered where Herbert was, he hadn't been around for ages, unlike him. I enjoyed his posts and sense of humour. RIP Herb.

Controversial cartoonist Larry Pickering has died aged 76 following a long illness.

He died on Monday night surrounded by his family after losing a two-year battle with cancer. He leaves behind wife Carol and 11 grandchildren.

Pickering, who won four Walkleys, drew cartoons that featured in The Australian and the Sydney Morning Herald, as well as other newspapers.

The cartoonist and satirist was never afraid to shy away from awkward subjects and was renowned for refusing to be politically correct.

He courted controversy last year by giving a speech slamming Muslims to the right-wing Q Society,

'Let's be honest, I can't stand Muslims,' Pickering told the gathering. 'If they are in the same street as me, I start shaking.'

Pickering, who also donated one of his cartoons featuring the rape of a woman in a niqab by her son-in-law as an auction item, wryly added he didn't think all Muslims were bad.

He officially retired in the 1980s but returned to drawing cartoons after Julia Gillard rose to power.

RIP LARRY!
