Re: Proof of God
Religion has always been rorted. Faith on the other hand is different. If you can't have faith in yourself, then people might turn to something intangible - usually called God. There can be some positives if you believe there is a greater power who might help you if you ask nicely. God is like a moral conscience to many of us and we have been taught to obey to a certain extent - at least enough to help us survive if life gets difficult.

Good grief... put not the Lord thy God to the test mantra.... most Christians will understand that. Even if you don't.

What is FAITH?Rorschach wrote:So is this going to be another atheistic "believer" bash by you SN.
BTW there is no "proof" of God because the test is about FAITH
I'm a Reformed Agnostic.Faith is confidence or trust in a person or thing; or the observance of an obligation from loyalty; or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement; or a belief not based on proof; or it may refer to a particular system of religious belief, such as in which faith is confidence based on some degree of warrant.

Isn't that what I said?

Re: Proof of God
I'm sure that's a passage from the bible that you've quoted, but why can't we put Him to the test - even if it's just for something trivial - like a parking space? Obviously an unwavering belief is what the "real" Christians demand, but I think that's dangerous. We have to rely on our own judgement, intuition and skills also. We can't survive on a belief in God's "word" alone. Asking God for a favour is a test that any agnostic would utilise occasionally.Rorschach wrote:Good grief... put not the Lord thy God to the test mantra.... most Christians will understand that. Is there a heaven? Or do you mean the sky above and the heavens beyond ie space.
I expect I will cease to exist as a sentient being when I die.
"Dust to dust"
I expect it to be like turning off a light switch. If the switch is off there is no light.

Obviously an unwavering belief is what the "real" Christians demand, but I think that's dangerous. Unwavering belief is what extremists and zealots demand, remember the car stickers... Christians are not perfect only forgiven.... We have to rely on our own judgement, intuition and skills also. We can't survive on a belief in God's "word" alone. Asking God for a favour is a test that any agnostic would utilise occasionally. Why? When its says not to. You can pray for yourself if you like doesn't mean it will happen or that it wont. Imagine if God did grant every wish and every selfish desire. I'm not sure that is what God's gift of life is about.
