Sitcom star Mary Tyler Moore dies aged 80

I liked her.

Mary Tyler Moore, who played a suburban housewife on The Dick Van Dyke Show in the 1960s and a single career woman in her eponymous sitcom, has died at the age of 80.

The American actress, who won seven Emmy awards for her television work, died yesterday with her husband, S Robert Levine, and friends close by.
She won an Oscar nomination for the 1981 film Ordinary People, playing a very different character from her TV roles — an icy woman coping with a suicide attempt by her teenage son. The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show were among the most popular sitcoms of their time, with the former ranking seventh in TV Guide magazine’s 2013 list of best television shows.

Moore emerged on television in the early 1960s, when many of the women in leading roles were traditional, apron-wearing stay-at-home “moms”. Her bright-eyed, stylishly dressed Laura Petrie character in The Dick Van Dyke Show chipped away at that stereotype.

I can't visualise who Don Rickles was. RIP in any event ... DEATH is what happens when you get old. ;)

I still have no idea who Don Rickles was. Silent Movies has never been my thing.
