Eventually caught some yabbies big enough worth cooking. Generally I put them in a bucket of clean water over night, so they clean themselves out, in order that I don't have to pull the gritty $#!+ tube out the tail (just like on prawns), but this time the biggest chopped the others up into pieces.

Still plenty of snakes about. Yesterday morning a 5-6 ft long light brown snake with dark spots and very bright yellow belly was prowling around some tyres I've got pineapples growing in. Couldn't tell if it was an Eastern Brown or some sort of Tree Snake.
Just after sunset yesterday I came across a 4-5 ft Red belly Black exiting the donga. Its tail was still in the donga. I removed the dog's water bucket weeks ago and have been evicting Green tree frogs ('coz they leave turds on the table), but the snakes keep coming.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

Snakes, hate the bastards.

How aggressive are they in reality?

Do you just have to be constantly on your guard for them? Do the dogs keep you safe?

Since your on your own in the middle of nowhere, what is your strategy if you get bitten?

I have.

Ate it is China in a soup.

Ate it on a scout survival camp.

Like the matrix said, everything tastes a little like chicken.

Reptiles and birds share common ancestry so its no wonder that they share a similar taste.

I've had snake, bungarra and croc. It was ok.

I haven't tried croc but have tried alligator. Pretty tasteless, alright with plenty of garlic.

Gators are fresh water. I like my meat pre-salted for flavour.

Never thought of that. Makes sense. The alligator I have eaten has all been farmed. Would imagine wild tastes different.

Another suggestion, made by Joe Staton of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, is that meat flavors are fixed based on the evolutionary origin of the animal. Specifically, he noted that tetrapods largely taste like chicken, whereas other animals usually do not. Accordingly, birds (the most numerous form of meat by type) would (in most cases) naturally taste more like chicken than mammals. Furthermore, based on evidence for dinosaurs as the ancestors of birds, reptile meat might also taste somewhat like chicken and therefore dinosaurs would most likely also taste like chicken.
