Did it ever occur to your pea brain mind that the double negative was intentional? That they are not opposed to an education but to no education? That 'no education' or at least none to speak of, was what was being delivered in the education system of the time? (Hence the reference to dark sarcasm.) That education was synonymous with nothing more than mass institutionalization? (Hence being yet another brick in the wall and the reference to thought control).
I declare it loud and proud Monk... you are more stupid than even I give you credit for.

I love it when people "think" they can interpret the TRUE meaning of song lyrics and/or poetry written by others.

Me too. Monk is such a dickhead to think the song is vehemently opposed to an education, don't you think?

Poor Sappho listened to her teachers from Grade 1 as they told her grammar was like mathematics
Don't want. . .no. . .

I am of the opinion that the entire Wall album is autobiographical. Obviously Waters had much disdain for his teachers and probably blamed them for much of the emotional problems he had later in life.
Some people think that this song is actually a strong satire of a utopian society. In George Orwell's book "1984" Orwell warns that by trying to create a "better" and "more perfect" society that is agreeable to everyone .. all that will be achieved is the extinction of free thought, free will, and basically all humanistic expression.
The song seems at first to just say "We don't need no education" as if it's just some rebellious kid who doesn't want to go to school. However .. the school depicted in this song is a very restricting and controlling force. The "education" described in the song really seems to invoke thought control.
It's interesting how we attribute different meanings to the songs and poetry of others.

Monk are you honestly saying that you don't understand double negatives?

Well you are wrong. The song is well known to be a protest song against an overly strict education because it is not conducive to curiosity, learning or educating.
You and Monk should do some research before daring to form your own loopy opinions. Better yet... stick to cutting and pasting.

If you are talking about some stupid pop song you will beat me all the time. I despise the whole pop-rock-blues-soul-C&W-rap-etc genre.
But we were not discussing a song we were discussing a sentence containing a double negative where vehemenent opposition to an education was expressed. That is the only possible construction you can derive from that sentence.
The housewife is wrong. Further, the housewife spent not a second considering what I posted. she got insecure because I challenged something she thought was true. Dull, boring little housewife is all Sappho is, for all her pretensions.
FD I am saying I understand them very well and that nearly everyone has the wrong of it.
Care to answer some of my questions of last night?

"Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)"
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey teacher leave them kids alone
All in all it's just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall
[chorus at end by pupils from the Fourth Form Music Class Islington Green School, London]
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey teacher leave us kids alone
All in all you're just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall
To me, reads very much as though there is not double negative intended at all. The author is anti the education system.
