I've read it, Lisa. Not a very appropriate remark for someone who has just died tragically, whatever the cause. But if you don't like something a member posts, you can just skip over it, instead of shouting. You know?

Elton John will perform at Amy Winehouse's funeral with a beautiful rendition of Candle Under The Spoon.

I fail to see why my response has caused so much angst, someone else wrote a comment re- 'top-gear' above mine and noone complained about that, I just assumed it was a bit of a joke thread.

Lighten up Lisa, anyone would think someone had died.

My only question is, how did she get so famous with a lack of apparent talent?

She's woeful.

Even on her good days, she was bad.

She snorted the kosher trail .... pure and simple ............... :bike

Yes, ironic indeed. Given my vintage, it ought be no surprise that I've never heard of this bird. So, given that 'rehab' song was the first I've ever heard of her, I agree.............what makes that voice/presence/performance any better than average?

:huh

I have to confess, I could not recall any of her hits off the top of my head either, (before googling) though I had heard the name mentioned...usually in relation to some personal upheaval.

I ask my son (age 16) if he knew of her, and his response came as...."Yes, the druggies worshiped her, she was more or less celebrated for her outwardly illicit conduct involving the use of drugs, and assorted other rebellious antics"... he said the druggy crowd at his school held a ceremony waving their bongs and cigarette lighters on dusk...*joking*.... but you get the drift.

She was popular with a certain genre apparently, not one my son or his friends thought highly of.

Tragic!

"rebellious antics"

lol, you make your son sound like a bit of a tosser :P

They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black but when I come back you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab, I won't go, go, go

I'd rather be at home with Ray I ain't got seventy days
'Cause there's nothing, there's nothing you can teach me
That I can't learn from Mr. Hathaway
Didn't get a lot in class But I know it don't come in a shot glass

They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black but when I come back you'll know know know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab, I won't go, go, go

The man said, "Why do you think you here?"
I said, "I got no idea I'm gonna, I'm gonna lose my baby
So I always keep a bottle near"

He said, "I just think you're depressed"
This me, "Yeah baby, and the rest"
They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black but when I come back you'll know, know, know

I don't ever wanna drink again
I just, ooh, I just need a friend I'm not gonna spend ten weeks
Have everyone think I'm on the mend
And it's not just my pride It's just 'til these tears have dried

They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black but when I come back you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab, I won't go, go, go
And that rehab song is all about what we all know about celebrity rehab visits. They go for the PR value... not to get better (well, ok, most of them anyway).

I can respect her for saying it like it is... but don't see the self destructive bullshit, and glorified promotion of things like the "27 Club" as anything but what it is.

Gawking at train wrecks.
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

I agree with what you've all said about the boosy-druggie songs and her druggie fans, but I liked her blend of jazz, blues and soul, and the sound of her voice. Rest in peace, Amy ..
