They can order whatever they like, but I see no reason to genuinely comply with an arbitary ruling to destroy something that could later be used as evidence, or for monetary gain, simply because it smudges squeaky clean facades.
If they ordered a vegetarian pizza, I'd give them a meat lovers.

That's why they ordered that a copy gets saved, and given over to the court. Persumably, once all is said and done, and all appeals exhausted, the images will be returned to their rightful owner. They're treating them just like any other stuff that may or may not be stolen. If there is any credability to the accusations, it gets held by the court until it is settled. The only thing that makes it seem complex, is that the property is bytes on a computer, where copies can be in multiple places at once.

Re: Breaking news!
boxy, do you believe that there is a Court in this land which has the jurisdiction to order you to hang the clothes out on your clothes line in the manner it decrees?
I suspect you don't. Courts are limited in their jurisdiction, and also as to powers.
In my view, the Court in this case has stepped beyond the power it has.

Smoke and mirrors... smoke and mirrors.
But we recognise your kind these days, Arsie, for what you are.
Teh popular media will indeed have a huge influence on teh "real legal world", just be thankful you're not part of it
