I love it when males discuss abortion. THEY would never have an abortion, eh?
Do you have any idea what goes on in the mind of a woman when she chooses and has an abortion, JW? If not then shut up!

I'm female. I agree that aborting is killing. So do quite a few other females. Unlike "Frogen" I think women's right to choose should be very limited by law.

What goes through a woman's mind would change with the woman, some women would regret it the rest of their lives, others believe it the right decision, some see it as no more than a minor medical proceedure and not killing at all.Jovial Monk wrote:I love it when males discuss abortion. As Ele reveals (and pro life women reveal) women are no more universally in agreement on this subject than men.
As I have said, several times on the thread, I would not ban abortion, that I believe it is justifiable killing. (Ele has often been the only person on these types of threads to pick this up.) What I am taking issue with is defining away a life for political or personal reasons simply so one does not have to give the decision the gravity it deserves.
Killing made easy.
If you are going to kill you should not pretend you are not killing. That leads to all sorts of nasty places such as the Nazis claiming Jews were not really human at all (in their sense) and so killing them was not really killing. This made the ovens of Auschwitz all so easy.
Killing may be justified but it must be acknowledge if life is to have any value at all.
As to the argument only a women can define what a life is, or talk about abortion, well this too is illogical. Can only a warrior define what a war is? The nature of killing in war?
Killing is of universal concern. Whether for capital punishment, in war or to relieve women from carrying a baby she does not want. The killing of life in a woman’s womb is as much concern to any thinking male as it would be any female, because how one addresses such killing defines our very view of life and it value.

Isn't that a bit of a generalisation Frogen? Are you inferring that abortions, these cold hearted surgical procedures, are predominantly demanded by females from the left? This would indicate that the soft, gentle, thoughtful and sensitive women from the right generally wouldn't consider abortion under any circumstances. Some times killing is necessary, but if you have not the honesty or gravity of soul to admit you are killing, if you need to redefine life and pretend you are not killing, what really, is the value of your human life?
Even more strange, this seems to be even a stronger instinct of Leftist, pacifist women.
News to me!

To the contrary ele is generally pro life but found on the Left on most other issues, but most mass pro-life movements are usually tied with the political right.
Primarily it is the Left that plays the rhetorical game that abortion is not killing because life does not begin until they find it politically (not biologically) convenient for it to begin.

No, that is not the point. (Machy once said I am extremely tolerant and kind to the thick and stupid, here Roger have a cup of kindness.)
I can say it is killing to abort a life and killing to expose a newborn baby (as the Greeks practiced), both are killing, but are both held of equal moral or legal value?
No, most people who support abortion would not support the latter form of infanticide. One form of killing is acceptable, legal, the other is not.
An honest and open, just or moral determination of when it is right to kill can only be made however if one admits life is being killed and not to lie as a matter of personal and political convenience that it was not really a life at all.
