When I've heard it quoted before I always got the impression that person had/was misapprehending its meaning. I sorta get the impression it ties in with the belief/doctrine/dogma with the devil being the creator theme.
Its pretty obvious when the Catholics made up their new religion, they reproduced the Trimurtie theme with their trinity concept, but Shiva was pulled out (Lord of serpents and demons {tramples on their heads to keep them under control} .. he is 'the most beatiful' .. and recast him as Satan, then filled the gap with Adi Shakti ("Primordial power" in sanskit .. considered a feminine life force within nature) to create "holy spririt/ghost" concept.
"devil"???

No, I see it referring to one who lives in the world as a normal human being, doing all the things a normal person does but isn't affected by the world because he sees it as the illusion it is.

Yeh ... gotta remember when new religions are formed/created the diety/god of the former/passing/old religion is recast as evil, sometimes even when the new religion is a complete rip-off/plagiarisation/reproduction of the former belief system being demonised. Which seems to be precisely the case when creating Catholocism from Buddhist precepts stitched up with Hindu themes/concepts and storyline painted as Jewish.
When the Romans adopted their remodelled Hinduism they would have been made aware they/we are and have been in a time frame refered to as Kali Yuga since roughly 3000BC. Kali a feminine diety/deveta would have been (and often still is) commonly refered to as "the Devi" and her influence supposedly pevades the Earth for 432,000 years.
The texts claim during Kali Yuga political leaders are criminals, spiritual leaders are charlatans, entrepreneurs are swindlers. The cities are over-run/controlled by criminals, men think and act like women, women dress and become as men, humaity turns the world into hell for animals, the people live in ignorance and wage war due to confusion.
Anyway, I don't think its a great leap for Devi and evil to be woven together to create 'devil'.

I also think Krishna's name and promise to return as a saviour in times of strife ect, somehow became mis-translated
to become the Christ title.

One thing I don't like about the doomsday cult generally refered to as Christianity, is they've ripped off the hindus doomsday scenario and then shortened the time frame to come 427,000 years early.
