There are over 700 species of Eucalypt but Koalas only eat about 40 of them and their food source is continually being destroyed.
I thought they were incredibly valuable if sold for zoos overseas?
It seems to me that money could be made by capturing them and selling them?
No! Bobby wash your mouth out.

They should be protected and respected here, where they belong, in their own habitat instead of sold off and put in enclosures in foreign countries.

Because they don't eat anything and everything Koalas in enclosures here need their food brought in daily. How can they survive overseas without an abundance of the food they need to survive?

Plenty of Koalas survive well overseas as suitable gum trees for food grow there too.

My comment was from the POV that anything is better than killing them.

The specific Eucalyptus Koalas eat are only native to Australia. Sure some of the 700 Eucalyptus species are grown overseas but which other countries grow these specific species? None I'd think.

Most people think any old Eucalyptus will do ... but it won't.

I appreciate your point but the only way to ensure their survival is to protect them, and specifically their habitat, here.

Yes it's horrible BO, but rather than focusing on the act, we need to find some answers.
Like who ordered the killings, why they didn't tell the public, and why other options weren't implemented.

Here's their disclaimer re- parts closed to the public.

I think someone should check it out, and ignore the barrier signs.

Photos of Koala genocide would demand an enquiry and accountability.

This is smelly, and I'm not referring to the smell of 700+ rotting koala carcasses.

"The Budj Bim National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed park covering the majority of the lava flow from the Budj Bim volcano (Mount Eccles) as well as multiple significant Indigenous heritage sites. Just a 30-minute drive from Hamilton, the park is open for hikers, campers and tourists to enjoy. Like Collorrer (Mount Rouse) and Mount Napier, Budj Bim is a part of the Kanawinka Geopark and the Newer Volcanics Province."

So would be rich with rare earth minerals.
If our traditional owners "own" it, they can sell parts of it??

Not sure if all of it is UNESCO listed, but regardless, if the mob sell it off, they will only be held to account by themselves.

Take a look at the koala genocide map here, it's possible to retain the cultural and UNESCO listed beauty of this park and mine it's surrounds.

While the Kanawinka Geopark's volcanic history and diverse geology offer potential for rare earth element exploration, there isn't specific information about identified deposits within the park itself. shhhh it's a secret!

I think this is what they're gearing up for.

No wildlife, no need to preserve habitat!

This is the whole agenda behind The Voice referendum in a nut shell. To sell Australian land off to foreign investors, particularly China, with the mobs own agreement.

Of course the mob elders themselves will be as crooked as the Labor party who installed them to begin with, as has been demonstrated in other Indigenous communities wherby these said "elders" have exploited their own people to benefit the Labor government, and themselves.

Remember, Labor have full intentions of legislating their Voice scam, hook or by crook, they're not done yet.

Penny Wong made this very clear a few days ago.

Check this article out BO, and ask yourself why our governments ministers were opposed to protecting this Geopark?

https://oiccpress.com/gcr/article/view/2815/1014

Because they considered this Geopark to have adequate "cultural " protections in place already.

They knew the value of un-tapped minerals within this massive Geopark which stretches across two states.

World's 6th largest in fact.

Kanawinka Geopark's mineralogy development means more to our government and foreign investors than several hundred koalas.

And the mob elders aren't talking about it either.

Yes, China has a significant koala population, notably in Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park, which boasts the world's largest koala population outside of Australia. The park has been home to over 60 koalas, spanning multiple generations.

Perhaps they didn't want anymore?
