Christchurch District Court Judge Stephen O'Driscoll said that when questioned about the video, Arps had described it as "awesome" and had shown no empathy toward the victims.

Justice O'Driscoll said the 44-year-old had strong and unrepentant views about the Muslim community and had, in effect, committed a hate crime.
"Your offending glorifies and encourages the mass murder carried out under the pretext of religious and racial hatred," he said.

I think they have a point.

Regardless of the man's views, I take issue with the media erasing unbiased footage, they are trying to take away the people's individual freedom to see the shit for themselves, without the influence of biased opinions. I recall you saying this on another thread. While in my cynicism I would not be surprised if it were true, I just don't know. How do you explain the victim's families grieving? Is it paid acting? Also, if it is fake, it makes no sense to release a CGI video and then make a big song and dance to try and erase it from the public's view? Though I have read about these tactics before.

His sentencing is for sharing the video, not his beliefs, cods.

Regarding the personal responsibility part... my point there being, that Adern wants to silence these sorts of videos from being shown to the public. Hence this man's sentencing. Her reasoning? She doesn't want these types of killings glorified. She doesn't want 'copycats' gaining inspiration from it.

My point is, if you ban everything that may inspire the 'evil' side of humans, where does it end? We would have nothing. We would learn nothing, and we would be blinded from reality because nanny state governments deem us feeble minded and weak.

I watched the Ted Bundy tapes last night. Why not ban those from being aired? One could argue he was glorified. The charming, non-suspecting law student kills tons of women, escapes jail twice and then his trial is publicised. A wet dream for any sicko who desires fame and dreams of raping and killing women. Better ban that, lest us small minded sheeple gain inspiration and try to mimic him.

The thread is discussing a multitude of points...
As I understand it they are these...…
a) the biased reporting by the media
b) the guilt of the accused
c) the sentence he has been given
d) Ardens reaction

Most of us would agree that the media dramatize and sensationalize everything by putting a certain
slant on their reporting to create a specific reaction by the unwashed peons....this is generally
called "mischievous journalism" and the media will deny this until the cows come home...they, in their
own eyes will report the "news" as they see fit and are gods to themselves, and in fact, quite often create
an image which in fact places them on a pedestal for the "scoop" which they reported.
In other words the media are vermin...they continually prey on human tragedy and call it "their right"
to report it as they see fit...whether it be mischievous journalism or not...they consider themselves
to be above criticism.

The accused is guilty..no doubt about it...

The sentence is extremely severe...however its probably an Al Capone prosecution.....(we cant get him for
murder so we'll get him for something else and throw the book at him)

And of course we cant forget Arderns roll in all this..which is simply political...how can I secure votes out of this....
In other words, no politician worth their salt would ever allow a tragedy to be wasted...
