Outside of the French Quarter, the Warehouse District, St. Charles, the Garden District and Magazine Street there really isn't that much to see in NOLA. Unless you are into some crazy Voodoo celebration down on the bayou ... there is one famous one ... what is it called? St. John's something or the other maybe ...Chard wrote:Word of advice if you want to visit New Orleans. You're going to go see the French Quarter. You're a tourist, it's expected and quite honestly there's fuck all else to see/do unless the Saint's made the SUperbowl and they're hosting in NOLA. Now, as long as you stay in the defined limits of the French Quarter you're just another tourist, people will be polite, friendly even because they want you to spend money. If you go outside of the quarter and you end up in some ghettos that are dangerous enough even my black ass won't go there.
Basically, cross Canal Street at your own peril, you will get jacked, and you could wind up as another dead tourist.

Go to a black church while you are there. It is just like in the movies. Awesome singing.

A neighbour of mine went to Peru last year .... backpacking and on her ownsome. Not a guided tour either, I believe. She had a wonderful time. She also went to Antarctica after that ........ same month+ trip .... she works for Foreign Affairs so travels a lot. I doubt I would be game to travel to South America with just a change of clothes in a backpack, my ipod/phone and Passport and bum around ........

Sapphy,
My list so far has included and I would recommend:
Egypt - forget the pyramids the must see is Karnack (Thebes) and see the valley of the Kings then Karnack temple then do a river cruise up river to Aswan to see the temple there. Bloody fantastic. is it a temple, is it a ruin or is it a pile of stones.... great game.
A true wonder of mans recently evolve capabilities.
Tunisia sucks but the Sarah trip is worth it. Roman ruins and the desert... man that is impressive.
Rome is worth a visit but for only 2 days.
Amsterdam to see how a liberal society works.
Dubai to see what money can do.

How about a place NOT to go: fucking Toronto. The men are corpses with no will to live. And the women think they are cool but are not, do not make eye contact, blah blah blah ... did I mention the weather?

In light of your recent antagonism, you could either go to hell, or go get fucked but because, naturally I am a much better person than you I'll be more helpful.
Nashville would be high on my list of places to visit in the US, simply to marvel at the outstanding musicians you can find there scrapping a living in coffee houses, bars and the like that make the Australian version of talent searches comparable to a grade 3 recorder symphony.
